Things to look out for in Lidl and Aldi

I somehow bought a bag of wasabi peanuts and two bags of wasabi cashews the other day. I haven't opened them yet though coz once I start eating I usually can't stop, even if I've had so much wasabi that I'm in actual physical pain.

Also bought the cheese one of these and it's just as addictive.

The pork ones were surprisingly good. Much nicer than the average corner shop ones. I think it's because they were good and dry, like saucisson sec. Usually your bog standard kabanos are a bit wet for my tastes.

Pork sholder steaks £2.11 per kilo .....epic buy ....... pork vindaloo coming up for the freezer.

Lidl's pork is usually good quality. I've bought their shoulder joints before when they've had their XXXL offers or are selling off near-dated stock at half price, just to dice, slice or mince.

A new Aldi opened in Carnforth before xmas and people did camp out/turned out at stupid o'clock as they were giving out golden envelopes to the first 100 customers through the door to win prizes including 7 tablet computers and a 32" telly!

Not a food item, but I now have two microwaves again - thus potentially cutting my average tea preparation time down from 40 to 25 minutes.
That said, I was potentially saving a bit of energy by baking my spuds first and wrapping them in a duvet while the sprouts were cooking ...

nipped into Aldi on my home today just to get a bunch of bananas and came out with a coffee maker, it grinds beans and it's got a timer function. Quite pleased with it for £39
:hmm: what's the coffee like ? nice full round taste with no bitterness ? hmmmm ? I take it you normally use ground coffee - what other methods have you used to prepare same and how does this machine stand up ?

I am taken by the bean to cup idea but find these coffee filters never really keep it that hot and you can lose a lot of the flavour so am most interested in any more detail you can give me.

A duvet? What size, I'm not sure I could fit one in my kitchen drawer.

I use beans, I need to experiment more with the bean to water ratio I think as I have noticed the loss of flavor (this is the first machine like this I've owned - before that I was using a cafetiere)
