Things to look out for in Lidl and Aldi

These lollies had been sitting in the freezer for what seems like ages, ended up having three of these last night. Delicious! Could easily have eaten all six.

From Lidl.

All sold out of these today :( , had to get some traditional orange lollies from the same manufactuer.

Haven't been to Aldi since the beginning of The Lurgi and what I've mainly missed has been the Bruschotta (sp?) that they do - particularly the tomato and something ones which are gorgeous rather than the garlic and something ones which are a bit dry for me. You'd hear mutterings round the shop when they got new supplies in and you'd have to make a dash to find them and grab several packets because they wouldn't be there the next week because people were all getting several packets each  .

Anyway I looked for them online but without success but somebody bought me a packet so I finally found who makes them and they sell direct for quite a reasonable price  I've ordered a gross* of packets. They came today, had the first packet yum they really are nice.

*actually 12

I’ve just had an Aldi Titan bar and it tastes just like Mars bars used to until they whipped more air into the base part in 1993. It’s like meeting an old friend after a 30 year absence. Their Racer bar is less sickly sweet than the Marathon it’s aping and has more nuts too. Well done Aldi 😎

Yeah, I miss the comforting density of the old ones.

I yearn after the old Milky Ways

Been to Lidl & bought 10 packets of walnuts , 2 packets mixed nuts , 6 jars of pickled onions & 2 small tubs of olives. My other go to is tonic water but don’t need any.

The base of Aldi’s Titan bar is a somewhat more stodgy version of the same. I too miss the original Milky Way which was briefly resurrected under the name “Flyte” in the early 00s but then disappeared. Take your pleasures where you may 😀

Definitely recommend these. Chuck them in the airfryer for about 15 mins, better than the ones you get from a Chinese, and at least half the price.

Off the back of this thread I purchased a 6 pack of Aldi Titan bars . . . they're not bad, definitely Mars bar'ish . . . but more like the mini's rather than a full size bar. You definitely need two to scratch the itch, so to speak

Also in a similar vein are Lidl's Caramel bars, and Morrison's Apollo bars - multipacks of own brand mini-mars bars essentially - both very nice.

I saw an interesting looking coffee rum in Aldi last week

I didn’t get it as I was already getting a bottle of gin, and I tend to stagger buying spirits (cost but also not wanting to look like a dipso at the checkout )

I've tried a few flavoured gins from aldi and they tasted weird so I guess the rum versions would too.

I really like the orange and passion fruit gin (I think, orange and something) from Lidl I bought last year and finished recently but they didn’t have it when I went back last week.
