The Republican Election Challenges

You think that this is remotely likely to happen?
Literally no idea.
However, Pelosi's choice of wording does suggest that she's aware of the exact grounds on which it is constitutionally possible to prevent them taking their seats.

He's going to invent a "higher" court isn't he. Hold a sham hearing, be declared the winner and then sit the rest of his miserable life in mar-a-lago wearing a blue peter crown, directing his minions in a Parler echo chamber to rage against the "fake" government.

Then act all surprised when someone finally goes full McVeigh.

I'd imagine half of Parler is FBI looking for loons

I have to confess that I’m increasingly concerned about what could happen in the next few weeks and months. I think a peaceful transfer of power with no ugly consequences on the other side will be a matter of good fortune.

Some of the stuff presented in that podcast someone posted up seem quite prescient at the moment.

Yuwipi Woman have you listened to it?

Yes, it could happen here. I'm not sure it will, at least not in the short term. In some ways, the previous civil war never ended. If you look at the south, some in the south haven't stopped fighting it yet. Only now are some states removing Confederate symbols from their flags and state houses. There is growing division over these monuments, which are a refection of the different attitudes toward a whole list of things. There's a lot of white people who seem to think that they need to assert control now, or they'll be outvoted by a growing brown and black population. While state houses are removing those symbols, you see them popping up at private homes and vehicles, some of them not even in the south. So you have that.

All of this is egged on by social media which fractions everyone into little boxes where your friends are all people who agree with you, even if those views bear no resemblance to reality. Its allowed factions to arise in ways that wouldn't have happened before the internet. You had your fringe groups then, they were just isolated nuts. Now they are nuts who hang out in little echo chambers on the internet and plot their revenge on the world. Luckily, most of these have been pretty incompetent. Its been mostly basement warriors without any real skills in explosives, or life for that matter. That's why some of the smarter groups are trying to recruit in the military. They're smart enough to know they need those skills to start their ultimate little race war. From what I've seen of my military friends, they've had some success in the lower ranks. The other thing that these groups are doing is trying to normalize themselves. They don't shave their heads any more, or tattoo swastikas on their foreheads. Instead they wear nice polo shirts and khakis and try to sound like university professors.

The election of Biden, places the possibility of a race war a little further back into the future. I think his administration will start using the FBI to go after the more violent of these groups. And as, Occupy and the Water Protectors can tell you, the government can do a lot to crush you. For instance, with the Occupy movement, the leaders of that are pretty much all in prison, or otherwise driven away from politics. With the Water Protectors, they've even hired private security firms to do counterinsurgency work. The left is used to that. I don't think the right is. We'll see.

Where I see things kicking off is if/when the dollar stops being the reserve currency. China is actively working to make that happen. It will destabilize the world political situation and certainly the US economic situation. Its also possible that the economic damage will be severe enough to cause a civil war. However, I hope once we get the virus straightened out that rebuilding the economy will go fairly quickly after that. (By "quickly" I mean a decade, rather than several decades). There's this thing called the Gini Index ( Gini coefficient - Wikipedia ). It shows the dispersion of wealth within a country. Usually, when income gets too concentrated in a few hands, then that leads to an increased chance of a civil war. The US is pushing the limit on the Gini Index.

I'm not really certain what point I'm making here. I guess, its "it can happen here", I'm just not sure it will right now. I see us cracking down on dissent, issuing some kind of welfare payment for the desperate that keeps that from happening. Our ruling class is stupid if they think people will starve indefinitely. If they don't, you'll see the pitchforks come out at some point.

Yes I found him universally useless and annoying although the last couple of posts he's put up have actually been useful because people have thoroughly debunked them and I've then seen other right wing loons posting up the same links. So that's been valuable.

It would be nice to have him confined to a thread entitled 'right wing loon twat spouts off' or similar where he could post his nonsense and people debunk it.

He'd be all right if he was only allowed to slag off Amazon and BezosSearch results for query: Amazon

Is it just me or is this a pretty straightforward threat to the GOP (if you don’t do your utmost to flip the state for me I’ll tell my people not to vote and you’ll lose the senate)?

it’s just getting worse for them every day, an epic disaster born of their own cowardice and lack of any sort of principle. Almost biblical. Maybe that’s what sidney meant all along.

Well, its explicit now.
This tweet will be one of the ones people write about if we still have history books.

He thinks the senate runoff gives him leverage.

Yeah maybe. That's what he's about with that particular tweet for sure, but I just get the impression throughout that he's been more fixed on Georgia than the others which seems a bit odd as it hasn't got the highest number of electoral college votes of the swing states.

Maybe he feels the Deep South should naturally all be voting for him.

maybe the fact that georgia still went to biden, despite all the hard work and progress on disenfranchising the black people living there, means it must have been a fix.

yeh he's got georgia on his mind

He seems particularly fixated on Georgia doesn't he, out of all the swing states. Is there any particular reason for that?

Georgia's got a Republican governor who Trump supported during his election campaign - in Trump's worldview, this means Brian Kemp should now do anything he wants, including doing whatever it takes to give him a win in the state. Trump can't abide disloyal subordinates so he'll be taking out some of his post-election frustration by destroying Kemp's political career.

Marty1 is back in the house, but will he pop his head up on here, considering the good news since he was banned?

Just to add to his pain...

A top member of US President Donald Trump's Republican Party, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, has congratulated Joe Biden on winning the presidential election last month.
