The macaroni cheese thread

not all soups are blended. i've had chowder with big chunks of clams in. yum.

yeah, but you can't separate it into clams and chowder. Chowder is the thing that all the ingredients became. This does not happen with pasta and sauce. It will always be pasta , with sauce on it.

The cheese stands for cheese sauce surely?

sure it does, but that doesn't change the fact that it sounds wrong.

poor Brits, you've been living with this wrongness for so long, it seems right to you :( there is nothing that can be done.

for the record, my Scottish ex who has a degree in linguistics agreed with me and tried to spread the word, but I think it's a lost cause. :(

too right

in which case your argument about different cheeses being used is rubbish.

This is a stupid argument, different countries call food different things shocker  crisps/chips wtf?

huh? how does it change anything? and of course it's a stupid argument. where do you think we are, anyway?

Maybe we should set up a new thread for the americans called mac and cheese.

Then we can go over there and tell them how wrong they are.

anyway, check out my macaroni and cheese, just in case you missed it on the dinners thread. i was inordinately pleased with it, so excuse my self indulgent cross-posting. :D

crunch isn't an essential with MC afaic. I will give it a go next time i make it and report back.

i presume crushed salt & vinegar crisps would be a suitable crunchy layer? ;)

cheese sauce is cheese sauce no matter which cheese you use

*unwatches thread again*

I don't think you really understood the argument tbf.
sometimes, in English, we change a general grammar rule because of another common grammar rule that would cause confusion.

in this case, a word before the word cheese generally describes the cheese, i.e. cheddar cheese, soft cheese, goat cheese, etc. (adjective noun)
there is also a rule that with pasta dishes, the structure is normally: type of pasta_______ type of sauce________ i.e. spaghetti bolognese etc.
This structure works fine, except when the type of sauce is also a commonly used noun that follows a different grammatical structure. (see the cheese example above)
