The Final Sopranos on E4 (no spoliers)

Brilliant episode.

Was shocked to see Tony killing Christopher. Was it cos he had become a thorn in his side, or because he was worried about Christopher becoming a grass or another reason?

I think it was because Tony realised that he could never turn the business over to Christopher, as he had stated he wanted to in a previous episode/series. Tony was talking about his dealings with Phil Letardo & Chris was more interested in his new stereo. After the crash when Christopher said he was back on the drugs & Tony saw that if Chris's kid had been in the car she would have been killed, Tony thought fuck it this guy is a liability & this is a good time to get rid of this liability with no come back for Tony.

What with the Pink Floyd? Comofortable Numb was playing when Christopher crashed the car and Tony quoted a lyric from it in last weeks episode.

Christopher dead helped by Tony..

Never saw that coming, but utterly brilliant..
You never thought Tony would end up killing him?

I must be the only person to find this season pretty fucking average and in places shit. Last night was just one big 'meh', an almost going through the motions episode and Tony's wife's reaction was barely believable as acting...damn shame because this was one of the best shows on tv once.

Which fucked up version of it was that, who was singing it? It sounded like someone like Ronny whatsit Dio!

To be honest, the way the show was going, I thought it would be Paulie offing Christopher or the other way round..

Fair enough, I've thought it'd be Tony for a good few seasons now, he basically gave the reasons too in his dream.

You're such a cynic.
Apart from the Christopher thing, you had Tony doing peyote too. What's not to enjoy?

Something being predictable makes me a cynic? C'mon, go waaay back to when Christopher first got infactuated by hollywood and Tony's reaction; things were set in motion then for Tony to off the guy...

And him doing peyote? Woopdee fucking doo...the first few seasons were fucking excellent but this and the last one...?

Just seen the long trailer for this, i'm so excited i could wee.

Looks fantastic eh?
You WILL be very dissapointed. :(

Without giving it away, David Chase just finishes the entire series as he would any other episode. No questions answered no final solutions just the exact same way a normal episode would finish. I can't tell you how pissed off (and dissapointed) I was!

I can't believe the final episode fall out from the states didn't reach the UK....

It was all over the news......Chase even received death threats according to several PR Media types here in LA and a handfull in New Jersey:eek:

Cable companies all over the US received calls thinking their cable reception had gone out....I was suspicious of TimeWarner Cable myself. The last season was a dissappointment (8 episodes instead of the usual 16) to me.

HBO is now running the series again, but not in any kind of order or regularity and the A&E Channel here is running the "sanitized version" of the series.

Tony yells out in the desert "I get it" meaning that while on peyote he feels like he has just felt why life and the unverse is the way it is....

That's not strictly true - I was disppointed at first but the more I thought of it, the more it made sense

Never heard that version before, it's almost as bad as that shite Scissor Sisters version (someone still needs to die for that).
It's way better than the original - I heard the cover first though

I thought he yelled "I did it" referring to killing Christopher.

Nah, he definitely says "I get it". Earlier in the episode, he talks to melfi about how chris was an emotional drain on him and he was relieved he was dead.

then, when playing roulette on peyote and getting on a winning streak for the first time in ages, he looks puzzled at his good luck until he has a lightbulb moment and says, "he's dead" (in an "of course" kind of way) meaning (as far as i see) that now that christopher is gone there is no more bad sign over him, which is why he starts to laugh hysterically.

so the "i get it" is the psychedelic clicking that he's worked out what life's all about. at least that's how it seemed to me. or was i on acid at the time? :D

suppose that means peyote works better than psychology. until his next bit of bad luck i suppose ;)

I agree, I think it ended perfectly when you think about it. Enjoy the rest of it everyone :D

Me too. The final scene was actually genius.

I watched the episode with chrissie's death about four times, unlike most episodes I'd say that one stands up as a fucking fantastic piece of work in its own right, better than most films I've seen recently.

Its a pile of pish - really disappointing.

I've watched The Soprano's from the start and its been a fantastic ride, but frankly its going through the motions now. It's dramatically poor and wholly unbelievable as Tony beds yet another fantastic looking woman he isn't paying. BORING.

Time they got WHACKED.

No way! The best programme on, and this series has been fantastic.

I thought that he was paying this woman anyway, that was sort of implied.

Its boring watching the writers fantasys.

There's no tension in the deaths either as they are not the culmination of any build up or conflict. When Chrissie kills his writer pal you just think this is silly. You wouldn't let Chrissie in your flat late at night and then you wouldn't start shouting at him either.

As just cut and paste sex and deaths the show has no dramatic force - its just gawping.

Chrissie's death was the culmination of years and years of conflict and tension between him and Tony. The writer's death was the culmination of years of Chrissie's internal conflicts, all of which have been subtly played out in the show. That scene was about chrissie, not the writer.
