The day that made Britain the GREATEST. 30/01/1649.

he's as much an anti-capitalist as i am a hurling champion

Well yeah it's an interesting period but there is a fine line between dour Marxist progress and cheerleading the worst excesses of imperialism cos it's better than feudalism. Or something.
The greatest butcher on the planet, is still the greatest butcher on the planet.

So still no suggestions as to a better butcher than Britain?

China: how many people died in the great leap forwards and the taiping rebellion and the chinese civil wars of the twentieth century?

Millions and millions, and those wars didn't feature drug dealing or art theft - in fact you'd be hard pushed to find anyone from those incidents of strife you've mentioned whose descendants will appear on Antiques Roadshow in a hundred years and express shock at how much their inherited ill gotten gains / umbrella stands are worth (especially the Great Leap Forward or the Long March).

The butchering is fact nobody is disputing. ALL states, especially imperialist ones have butchered.

I'm anticapitalist, because they say there will be no turning back from global warming by 2040. We are looking possible extinction of humanity. It doesn't seem like capitalism can deal with this problem. Therefore, I would like to see something else. So I am anticapitalist.

However, I don't live in hope. And so it was just an interesting question to myself, which is the greatest country in world history. Just the kind of tallying up at the "End of History".

I would say capitalism is the greatest at satisfying human need, and destroying humans. Therefore, it would have to be a capitalist nation.

I did suggest in the original post China is probably the greatest COUNTRY. But it was always isolationist, wasn't it? Although it was probably the greatest benefactor to the Western world with regard to technology Before capitalism, I ruled it out.

And so I plumped for Britain. Not out of any sense of pride, more out of the sense of resignation to the reality of the situation we live in today. Britain as the 1st, and as a massive spreader of capitalism through imperialism, which caused other nations to do the same thing, Britain acted as a massive primer pump for global capitalism. In that respect, to capitalism, Britain is probably the greatest. I cannot think of another country I would point to, can you? Why?

Sorry I have misled people into believing I some kind of nationalist flag waver. My fault entirely.

Best wishes, tremulous tetra

On 30 January 2019 it will be the 370th anniversary of the greatest day in British history. It should be a day of global celebration, and national pride, but will undoubtably go without mention in the world's media.
I didn't do myself any favours Here. I was trying, Badly, to be ironic, about the capitalist media which whitewashes every treacherous deed In history.Whereas the English revolution is expunged from history. You have to admire the Briitish ruling class. They have screwed us Royal.

The next thread. The greatest political party in history. No prizes for guessing.

I am a bit confused here. Wars that didn't involve drug dealing and art theft are likely few.

You're having a laugh if you think the english rev's expunged from history. Have you heard of the band the levellers? Books about the English Cívil War are stocked in bookshops and libraries up and down the country. The sealed knot reenacts civil war battles. Plays about Anna trapnell are produced. It's not forgotten!

Being an old lefty, I have heard of them all. They are not really part of the popular consciousness for the obvious reason, those who manufacture consent would prefer revolution not on the syllabus.
