"The British people expressed their view very clearly on 23rd June"

I was asking the question
yes it's all there, you asked, I answered, you parodied, adding that "doesn't fully explain how they have moved from the marginal shadows to the centre stage of politics". I just wondered if you had anything of substance that might help explain.

Not convinced that a case of simple rephrasing/ rebranding or merely repeating attacks on target hate groups fully explains what's happened. If they had a limited audience five years ago how do we explain the appeal now? Do Trump and the alt right say something more than just that? Or was it that Clinton didn't say enough ? How do we explain those members of target hate groups that didn't come out and vote for Clintons identity politics or in some cases voted for Trump?

I think we've all got more questions than answers, tbh. I can suggest that Gamergate gave a lot of atomised apolitical people a cause and provided a receptive pool for a few fish to become quite big and influential. Or that Clinton was a poor candidate, but then so was Trump on any rational assessment.

And it's blatantly obvious that people have grievances which the right/alt-right have harnessed better than anyone with liberal or left ideas.

Individuals with personal views.

The story is back, at least in regards to the St Petersburg troll factory...

If you saw these tweets, you were targeted by Russian Brexit propaganda

Thousands of pro-Brexit tweets sent the day of the EU referendum were from the Russian “troll factory” behind similar pro-Trump tweets sent during last year’s US presidential election, it has been revealed.

Tweets in English, made to look like individual users from the UK and the EU, were posted on the day of the referendum using hashtags such as #EUref, #BrexitInOut, #BritainInOut and #BrexitOrNot as part of a campaign to influence the vote.

I love all this Russian 'meddling' - it seems to amount to some tweets. Whereas the US has never actively killed millions of people by overthrowing democracies around the world to ensure that various countries vote the right way, oh no...

Whataboutery of the most absurd kind.

Yeah but look at the quality of the tweets in question - with memes like this democracy is surely under great threat ;)

I think the number of people who would find that brilliant and incisive is not insignificant. Say what you like about the Kremlin, but crediting us with no more intelligence than we deserve is probably sound.

A couple of weeks back, this bampot at my phone company was trying to sell me a new contract with a phone instead of another SIM only.

He went-in for the kill when I said that I was thinking on buying a new phone the next time I was in Germany:

After Brexit, European phones won't work in the UK...!

Err, OK. Just send me the details of your offers - I'm still waiting! :D
