The Ashes 2019

I would suggest that if you are considering reviewing an lbw that you haven't hit, that pitched inside leg and didn't hit you in the armpit, think carefully about it, then ask the other batter, then think again for a while..too late, walk off.

The radio commentary said that Root suggested Bairstow review. I think it was a bit of a case of use a review and hope.

Sometimes I don't mind that tbf. And anyway, it was umpire's call. No damage done - you keep the review. :D It was a chunky UC, mind. If it had been the other way, I'd have been mildly miffed as a bowling side. Some UCs look out. This was one of those.

Will you all stop whammying the batsmen? Sometime before the Ashes will do, kthx.

jack leach showed great defensive technique today. Dom bess has the same. Why?

Are you suggesting Somerset have great defensive technique? They can't even defend a Championship title.

*Runs*

*More runs than England*

Not yet.

But, tbh i was just saying technique. Defensive technique

Could be worse. I mean, Curran could have been playing himself into the Ashes with a few wickets and late order runs against a sub-Test level attack.

Oh wait..

Good thing we’ve got bowlers that can bat, though, since apparently we lack batsmen who can say the same.

All that talk on TMS this morning about batting conditions being perfect so England's batsmen can "fill their boots".

What happens? We end up with no centuries and the highest score is by the nightwatchman

Two from Curran, Broad, Woakes and Stone? I guess the selection panel will be reluctant to go without some real pace, so if Stone gets a couple more wickets it might be him and one other.

For those listening to TMS - the "one second per mile rule" equates to this lightening strike which is what's caused them to leave the field...

Hard to say this without sounding rude about Ireland, but their team is county second division standard at best, in both batting and bowling. There are a few county stalwarts in there like Murtagh and Rankin, but they're past their best. The likes of Porterfield, Wilson have had patchy county careers.

My fear is that runs or wickets against them may give a false impression of a player's quality. It's a good warm-up for the Ashes, and I'm not discounting the possibility of England falling on their faces and Ireland springing an embarrassing shock, but it's not really comparable to facing Starc, Cummins and Hazlewood or bowling to Warner and Smith.
Yeah , about that ......
