The Ashes 2019

Ireland bowled 29 overs that session. Won't reach 90 in the day again, let alone 98. We all knew this - why did they even pretend it might happen?

I don't mind much tbh. As long as there is a result at the end, it really doesn't matter.

We’ve stumbled on the perfect opener by serendipity. I suggest Will Beer, Sussex occasional number 9 who scored 96 at his first attempt at opening, to join him. He’s also a leggie so it would be like Shane Warne on drugs. So like Shane Warne then.
Perfect foil. Beer's a bit of a blocker, isn't he? Would complement the natural flair of Leach.

Just watched the Burns dismissal. Add that to the list of awful shots. wtf was he playing at that for?

Just need to hope that every team we play has an ageing County 2nd Division at best bowling attack.

Anyone know what this Starc chap is like?

What happened to Mark Footitt?
He failed to settle in London (his wife and daughter stayed behind in the East Midlands after he left Derbyshire) so he asked Surrey to release him from his contract towards the end of the 2017 season even though he was playing regularly. He immediately rejoined his native Notts but has barely played a first XI match since. I think he had a loan spell at Derbys (possibly Leics?) last season and this year he just seems to have been playing for Notts 2nd XI.

He was a genuinely quick left arm bowler when England picked him for the tour to SA in 2015/16 but never played a Test and was never called up again. Looks like his face didn't fit with England. He was also a smoker, You'd often see him alone on the balcony having a puff during intervals at Surrey games, which is probably another thing that doesn't fit the modern "Team England" outlook.

There's at least one first-team regular at Surrey who smokes? And when Footitt was at Surrey, another player used to open the window at the back of the change area for a smoke. An improvement on the player who smoked weed in the change room at another club during matches.

That's a bad drop by the keeper off Leech, regulation catch.

Talking about keepers it sounds like Tim Payne has copped a blow in the tour match. If he is injured how on earth will the aussies cope without him?

Bairstow, oh FFS !!

England are effectively 72 for 5  :(

The Aussies must be pissing themselves laughing.

Again, not read the thread or listened to the radio. Assuming we are about to declare on 450ish and get the non-test side to start their (short) innings, probably not enforcing the follow on but starting our 2nd innings with a large lead.

Aussie warm up game against each other. 550 runs for 35 wickets of which Starc took 1-79.

Small mercies and all that.

By christ England are terrible.

Our batting is as bad if not worse than the 90's. At least we had Atherton and Thorpe then.
