The Ashes 2019

I feel that trembly excitement too.

But I fear for injuries. And he seems so wonderfully daring and oblivious.

Love him :)

Told you. ;)

Archer’s never going to deliver the first ball of a series to second slip. No worries. This boy’s for real.

I remember John Snow but only from watching John Player League on Sunday with John Arlott commentating. His England days were done by then but he still looked lively. It was Willis (when not injured), John Lever, Chris Old, Mike Hendrick etc. back then. Can remember a few bits and pieces from the home 1975 series and plenty more from the home 1976 series. Archer, the most exciting I've seen. Just hope he stays injury free.

I can remember the build up with the Bob Willis run-up. He started a couple of feet inside the boundary rope & by about 3 O'Clock when the crowd were well oiled it was something to remember.

Until late last year, the rules would not have allowed Archer to play for England until 2022. Because he migrated to England after turning 18, ECB rules said that he had to live in England for 7 years before being eligible to play for the national team.

But they changed that rule last year, reducing the eligibility period from 7 to 3, making him immediately eligible for selection.
The rule seems to have fluctuated over time. I'm sure it was 4 years for the various South Africans who qualified during the apartheid era - Greig, Lamb, the Smith brothers. It was 7 years for Graeme Hick, who had already played for Zimbabwe in the 1983 World Cup. It was 4 for Kevin Pietersen, who has a British mother. It was 7 for Conor McKerr, who joined Surrey in 2016 aged 18 and also has British parentage, so I guess he benefits the same as Archer. If he'd been anywhere close to eligible the media would have been hyping up McKerr, who is 6'5" and pretty quick, this time last year when he took a stack of cheap wickets towards the end of Surrey's championship winning season, but he's been sidelined by injury for most of this season.

Snow had a reputation as a hothead who was difficult to manage. He made his debut in Fred Trueman's final Test and was our leading fast bowler in a very successful few years for England under Ray Illingworth's captaincy.

I recall one commentator (probably John Arlott) describing this as being like an old locomotive building up a head of steam.

Morning!

Well that could have been worse for us, good bowling by Englandf and Archer in particular. Least we have a wee target to defend.

Looks like our middle order is pants. Well, shame Starc still not in the side, but com'on the aussie bowlers, let's make a game of it.

Game on! :)

When was the last time England batted for best part of two days? Weather is set fair boys, now don't fuck it up.

Rooooooooooooooooooooot!

I think the aussies need to get marnus labuschagne into the next test regardless of what is happening with Smith. If Smith isn't ready than its probably a straight forward like for like but if he does play they need to do something about the Head, Wade and Tim Paine middle order. Given Paine appears to be a specialist captain it won't be him but it should be as he's got out to some poor shots and his keeping is very ordinary.

I stand by my comments.

Though Wade was unlucky it has be said. I think Warner used up all their luck yesterday, hopefully for the next innings as well.

Right, don't fuck this up England. Just need one guy to get a ton and the others bat round him. Anything 300+ will be a winning score.

Roy is a typical product of Croydon's Shitgift school; thick and arrogant.
Should never be picked again; he's not got the mental architecture for test cricket.

My best mate went to Whitgift. Got kicked out for being a messer iirc

He is also shit at test cricket.

You just can't expect to win games with a top order like this. It happens every single time and happening for what seems like forever. What are the selectors actually paid to do?
