The all boxing thread

I don't think there's ever been a heavyweight boxer that peak Iron Mike wouldn't defeat. He was incomparable for that all too short period.
He was actually very good at punching up to taller men iirc. And he did without relying on looping rights over the top.

The current heavyweight scene....he'd have battered them like an old piece of cod.

Watching Derek Chisora. He's taking too much punishment, must be awful for his brain box, but he's still upright

That's right. He knocked out a former World champion, Chris Algieri. I think that this time next year we'll be talking about him as a World champion. He certainly has potential to be better than his dad.
Yeah, he certainly looks that good. Must admit, it's a struggle to like him from the interviews I've seen.

Really? I think he comes across as a very likeable bloke. But then again i feel the same about Chisora. :D

I just find his bragging a bit hard work.

Chisora has developed into the likeable eccentric of British boxing, though he does have a DV conviction.

Big grudge match fight tonight live on sky.
Eubank vs Williams. Should be a good one.
Team Williams

I don't think Eubank jr has the chops to back up his arrogance.
He wasn't amazing tonight and couldn't get the knockout despite what bollocks he was talking about not wanting to

I thought it was easy for Eubank. The commentators seemed insistent on making out it was close, but then the judges gave it by like 7 pts. All the showboating was annoying but I guess they don't like each other. He didn't knock him out but he knocked him down three times and never looked in any trouble whatsoever.

Jnr has even less class than his old man. Leaving the ring without showing respect to his opponent, despite bad blood, is a no no.

It was mentioned more than once during the coverage but women's boxing has come up leaps and bounds. Really quite pleasing.

It’s something I’ve never followed.
To be fair, I always feel a little weird about it. I guess because I got into men’s boxing at a fairly early age and women’s boxing is quite new to me.

Gave it by 7 rounds but that's taking into consideration the 4 knock downs., without them it was a close(r) fight IMO.
I did like how Eubank boxed on the back foot and his movement, but he really should have taken him out.

Overall I enjoyed it.

Khan v Brook on Saturday then. Pretty even though the weight could favour Khan. They are both clearly past their best, but Kell looked good against Crawford, well, until the point that he didn't. Khan hasn't had a meaningful fight in 2 years, when he fought Crawford and was taken apart.

Anyway, proper British insults: 'you're gunna get it mate', 'I'm gunna smash yer face in'.

Khan will last until Brook lands a couple of decent shots and then his glass chin will shatter.

Hope so, I just read Khan supported a Tory mayoral candidate last year. When he was new on the scene, Khan was a nice lad and he was poster boy for British Muslims at a time of racism and Islamaphobia. Over the years I've gone off him without ever really knowing why. It's not even the celebrity stuff he's done as I've never followed those stories.

One thing about Khan, he's never in a boring fight :)

I know this fight is too late and matters not in the grand scheme of boxing tings, but it may very well be an absolute scorcher of a fight.

It's a bit hard to assess where both fighters are at really. They've both come up against some exceptional fighters in their last few fights (Canelo, Crawford, GGG). They've come up short, but Kell in particular did okay for a few rounds. If they'd avoiding going up in weight and fighting Canelo and GGG - mad decisions - they might well have hand picked their way to a decent CV. Trouble is they were always going to come up against someone like Crawford. Achievement wise, I'd have them somewhere around the Ricky Hatton level. Both had a couple of significant wins, but get clattered when they face the elite.

Regardless, should be great. Hope Brook's eyes stand up to it though. :(

Can say that again. A couple of my mates think the stoppage was soft, but he'd been saved by the bell the last two rounds, wasn't throwing back with ages until the bell. Fuck letting him get brain damage for pride, in his last likely fight at 35 years of age
