Women's boxing final

I don't think that's the case with defamation law. I think the onus is on the defendant to prove what they've said is true.

Yes. You're right, but on further reading, so is Smokedout. It's a harassment and bullying case, not a defamation case. And brought in France, so all bets are off unless we have anyone who knows about French cyber-harassment law.

This is getting too niche even for urban

It's being investigated:

The prosecutor’s office said it had received the complaint and its Office for the Fight against Crimes against Humanity and Hate Crime had opened an investigation on charges of “cyber harassment based on gender, public insults based on gender, public incitement to discrimination and public insults on the basis of origin.”

And another woman has also brought a complaint:

Earlier, Kirsty Burrows, an official in charge of the IOC’s unit for safeguarding and mental health, filed a complaint with French authorities saying she received death threats and harassment online following a news conference in Paris at which she had spoken in defense of Khelif.

The Paris prosecutor’s office said it received Burrows’ complaint on Aug. 4 and agents from the National Unit for the Fight against Online Hate are investigating the alleged offenses, including death threats, public provocations aimed at attacking a person and cyberbullying.

I thought I read it is a criminal complaint - not sure how that would make a difference aside from her not having to pay for lawyers. Perhaps a civil complaint could come later

oops - likely closing the stable door after the tweet has bolted, though :(

Is there any possibility that, rather than being an attempt to cover things up, given the nature of the case she has been advised/ordered to take down the offending tweets, given that (theoretically) as long as they're still up they're still 'actively damaging'?

Either way it's a bit moot, of course, since obviously these days her tweets (along with those of other public figures) are inevitably almost immediately saved by someone.

Nicola Adams has shat herself and taken down her tweets calling Imane a man. As far as I know, she hasn't been named in the lawsuit.

I think I'll choose to be generous to Adams and say she hasn't shat herself, she just realised she was wrong.
