I'll wait for a respectable lawyer from a real university, if that's okay.

when the hell did you come back, with your entryist ways etc.

Also: comparing the census to Nazi germany means that for you, moon, ze arguement is over.

I was going to put "Sith" to keep myself very moderately amused during the box-ticking. Do we really believe "no religion" is that important to put instead?

I am not putting 'white' as my ethnicity. This is because there is no such ethnicity as 'white'. I shall put 'other' instead.

If you tick anything other than 'no religion' it will mean taxpayer money gets diverted to faith-based initiatives. Up to you if you're happy with that or not.

Fuck that. "No religion" it is.

In other news, I have decided to define myself as "mixed European".

'Black' and 'white' are more racial labels than ethnic ones. If the Census has a question such as 'What ethnicity best describes you?' and then provides racial labels among its multiple-choice answers, it's mixing things up. There's all sorts of reasons why that might be, but I would guess cautiousness around the use of words such as 'race' and 'racial' is among them.

Oh so now you're back from outer space? And you just stand there with that look upon your face?

A Law professor is stating there is a lack of census confidentiality

Census data may be shared with other organisations if it is deemed to be in the interests of national security, says Douwe Korff, professor of international law at London Metropolitan University.

Data could be shared under exemptions outlined in section 39 of the Statistics and Registration Service Act (SRSA), which all government statistics are subject to (see below), he says.

"The legal safeguards against breaches of confidentiality are so flimsy as to be useless. In a democracy under the rule of law, one should not have to rely on blind trust in the authorities; the law should guarantee restraint," he said.

The law that applies to the census data does not stand in the way of the UK police, or intelligence services, foreign law enforcement agencies or secret services, seeking access - not just in exceptional cases but for general "trawling" or "fishing expeditions," says Korff.

The professor is wrong, and the director of the census is right: Raw data cannot be accessed by anyone, only the statistical data derived from the census.
Aggregate data may be accessible, but aggregate data is hardly conducive to intelligence trawls. It's no more useful than general demographic data ever is.

It's wrong to say the raw data cannot be accessed by anyone, it is readily accessible to the temporary workers who collate the forms and store them in their homes. You should rather say that the raw data should not be accessed by anyone who isn't employed to carry out the census.

Course whether or not the census is a fascist plot makes no difference if the life expectancy of parts of the UK is 57 you ridiculous lib-dem. That is what you should be getting on a high horse about. But you don't.

I like it when people tell other people what they should be getting on a high horse about.
