Thatcher's State Funeral

How so? Her father was a humble grocer and she went to an ordinary grammar school. Blair on the other hand went to Fettes (and I see nothing wrong with that, BTW).

What's wrong with being so-called 'petty bourgois'?

Humble grocer my bleeding piles. Shop-owner doesn't mean shop-worker.

but labour but labour- I've venom to spare for him as well. That you don't see his private schooling as problematic says it all...

I said she had the venom displayed by the worst of her class- the I saw it and daddy pulled his socks up, we went without a proper starter once when times were hard alan sugarish self mythologising bullshit about how they know the proletariat and are entitled to despise them because of it. I didn't say it was neccesarily a bad thing- just that she displayed the more venemous tendencies from someone raised so.

we're not all bad you know. :(

but yes i agree.

I think they should have kept it around tbh.

I don't disagree, I love it that most people like Not On Welfare go all shouty and self-righteous about shit. :) I just reckon that copliker having a pop at FM for carrying a fairly clearly-defined mod duty was a bit daft.

Oh I dunno, corner shop owners all seem to have their noses to the grindstone 7 days a week round here. Only the bigger ones actually have staff.

Yeah, I meant in the case of Alderman Roberts, not in general. I should have been more specific.

She is not getting one though. So bicker away about stuff that has been debated to death if it cheers your new years eve :)

says you, with his uncorroborated source what you won't reveal:mad:
Brian Groom in the FT yesterday argued that state funerals should be "unifying" and that Thatcher wasn't (he can be assumed to have been a supporter). He poured cold water on the state funeral idea. Today's Daily Mail suggests there might not be enough troops to line the streets: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1034634/Lady-Thatcher-honoured-State-funeral.html

The fact remains, though, that Gordon Brown planned one for her (code name Iron Bridge), and that Francis Maude has put similar plans in place.

He was only technically a "commoner" anyway. He was an "honourable", as well as later becoming a "right honourable", a Companion of Honour, and a Knight of the Garter. His family was riddled with aristocratic blood too.
In fact, churchill was only 'commoner' by being born too late; he was a grandson of the duke of marlborough and son of Lord Randolph C.

As far as my limited powers of perception go, she'll get a state funeral- every prime minister since has paid obeisance in ceremony and practise. Pretty sure if she goes under the coalitions reign she'll get the state jobbie- protests or otherwise. Still, it remains to be seen. I would like to know how badgers military source recons it won't happen. Sure it'll be divisive but it isn't like the PTB give a shit about objections to state pageantry.

I'm tempted to say that I hope they do give her a state funeral. Profligacy at a time of austerity may not be as well received as they suspect this particular will be.

that's not a recent daily mail article you daft twat

I want her death to be a yearly event. Something like bonfire night where people celebrate the end of the evil crone.
Yes, I think she was evil with hateful, mean and greedy ideology. I want it to be a big event so that everyone can clearly see that her legacy is not something people want to celebrate, the people want to celebrate the hope that it's possible to rebuild what she and her cronies destroyed.
