:hmm:

I love the fact that SHE choose to be buried in St Paul's.

Personally I would like to see her buried in a coal mine, it would be poetic justice, though I don't really see why we should wait til she dies to do this.

Pull them out of afghanistan for Thacthers funeral. They should stay here on emergency standby.

In a separate proposal, the Queen has also given her permission for Lady Thatcher to lie in the Chapel of St Mary’s Undercroft immediately beneath Westminster Hall on the night before her funeral.

Might throw a spanner in the works for the 'piss on her grave' tour.

could always take along a bottle of piss and surreptitiously pour it out. Not the same as fresh from the cock urinary contempt, but the thought is there

Just a couple of facts for the hysterics:
‘It is yet to be decided whether Lady Thatcher will lie in state. They won’t decide on the finer details until the actual time. There might be a new Prime Minister in place which could change things.

‘Ultimately it’s a call for the Government as to whether Lady Thatcher will lie in state.

And this is probably factually correct as well:
She led the country from 1979 to 1990, winning three Elections and the Falklands War, and was credited with reversing the nation’s post-Second World War decline.

"Hysterics"? PMSL!!!

She led the country from 1979 to 1990, winning three Elections and the Falklands War, and was credited with reversing the nation’s post-Second World War decline.

That may be the case but before the Falklands Scrap, her regime was in crisis.

Nonetheless, a version of events has been constructed to portray Thatcher in a good light; as if she was the British version of Joan d'Arc.

Without the Falklands she'd have have lost the election.

Fucking disgrace, well at least I can line up early for a road side pitch to egg the bitch's coffin from.
What is even more galling is that the government have refused to give the last great war vetern a state funeral, should they have wanted one.

Well if there is one way to turn the country from a recession into depression it is this news. I am not surprised at Gordon Brown approving of this, as he shares Thatcher's politics, but I am that the Queen is also on side here. I thought that Thatcher annoyed the Queen by assuming a monarchical attitude. Thatcher is notorious for use of the Royal plural.

It is very much an insult to the ordinary people who suffered so much during Thatcher's period in office. We should as a country be doing everything we can to repair the damage done by Thatcher's economic policies and selfish values. This state funeral could cause tension in the capital at a time when people are suffering the consequences of continued Thatcherite economic policies.

They might well need to line the route with soldiers. Will they be armed with live rounds though? This could be a really dangerous move, to create a symbolic target for every kind of opposition from verbal abuse to lethal terrorism from more than one source. Thatcher had and has, many enemies. I despair at the stupidity of this.

Just in case you wanted to read, a state funeral hasn't been decided.

According to the Mail a state funeral, as in a funeral for her carried out by the state rather than private citizens, _has_ been decided - it's just not certain whether this will involve a procession, and/or her lying in state, as well.

It could of course either be just rumours or be taken back.

And this is probably factually correct as well:

The devil, as usual for tories, is in the detail. In this case the devil being turn-out figures and size of majority.

By the way, Thatcher didn't "win" the Falklands war, the British armed forces did. Thatcher merely took credit in order to get herself re-elected in 1983.

Thatcher ordered the task force to sail when all conventional politcal opinion said don't - according to every single autobiography of the period I've ever noted (party political and otherwise). I'd think that might have had some bearing on freeing the Falklanders from the fascist-led Argentines.

As for turn out - are you suggesting people didn't have a choice about whether they voted or not; see, I'd have thought if peolpe were opposed to Thatcher, they might have voted against her?

She still won the 1983 election because of the rather convenient Falklands episode. Without that, her and her party would have been voted out of office.
