Shameless, fawning, Alexandra O Cortez fan thread

So last night I was perusing podcasts and saw a long interview with AOC. Thought this might be interesting because while I have serious doubts (which I can't quite put my finger on), some people on here really rate her.
Put it on and after a fairly lengthy intro by the two leads (leftish, kind ok jokey), there was about 50 minutes of fairly weird music. Not "bad weird".

No idea what was going on there.

edit: derp - it was an April fool joke. seems quite a few people appreciated the music. Not so easy to see when you just chose "Episode 218".

(Was a little tempted to repeat the prank, but it felt a bit naughty)

Edit2: Music is by "Yung Chomsky", in case anyone fancies a little synthwave.

compared to the competition she's the sky above, but as i've said, i'm not on the AOC train. she used the race card to win her first campaign and tried the "pure" route until pelosi, who is as hard as nails, gave her a tadding and showed her how power works in DC.

We've seen how impressive she is as a questioner, and the results of just one of those questions:

In 2019, Mr Cohen testified against his former before the House Oversight & Government Reform Committee. At the time, Ms Ocasio-Cortez, who the previous year had beaten former House Democratic Caucus Chairman Joe Crowley in a primary in New York’s 14th District, asked questions about whether Mr Trump ever provided inflated assets to an insurance company.

“Yes,” Mr Cohen said in response. When Ms Ocasio-Cortez asked who else knew that Mr Trump did this, he said “Allen Weisselberg, Ron Lieberman and Matthew Calamari.”

The lawsuit also named Mr Lieberman, the former chief financial officer for the Trump Organization. Specifically, it said that Mr Weisselberg helped Mr Trump make fraudulent statements of financial condition regarding his properties.

“Mr Trump made known through Mr. Weisselberg that he wanted his net worth on his statements to increase every year, and the statements were the vehicle by which his net worth was fraudulently inflated by billions of dollars year after year,” Ms James’s office said in a statement.

“And where would the committee find more information on this, do you think we need to review his financial statements and his tax returns,” she said.

“Yes, and you’d find it at the Trump Org,” Mr Cohen said.

The lawsuit alleges that Mr Trump fraudulently inflated his net worth by millions of dollars so that banks could lend him and his businesses money on more favorable terms that would otherwise not be available.

Another ❤️

Tbh I'd be more interested in what prompted her to take the line of questioning she did rather than ❤️ her for a question out of context which by chance prompts an investigation

Here's cohen's opening statement The key excerpts from Cohen's testimony on the 'truth about Trump' where he talks about inflating trump's assets - seems to me after that it's not a great hike to asking questions which have the potential to might lead to an investigation or charges for Trump, so the article's for me a grand bit of shameless fawning

At the time there was a lot of investigative TV surrounding Trump (some satirical and factual, others merely factual) and in a few of those shows it was mentioned about Trumps penchant for inflating his assets and ripping off contractors. One show "Last Week Tonight" even quoted direct testimony from Trump undertaking a trial deposition where he said the value of his assets changed with his mood. In addition, he was still refusing to divulge his tax returns and there were fraud cases being built against him and his company by various public prosecutors. This was all in the public eye at the time and she probably felt it appropriate to bring it up in questioning.

I'm sure she did

But what Forte has failed to mention is that her family’s beverage distribution warehouse was at the center of a federal drug and gun bust in 2019—which culminated in guilty pleas by her husband and son, both of whom are serial offenders.

mid-trems here today, Ocasio will breeze in, esp. as there are two rightwingers running against her, a bootstrappy type and a MAGA type with a family history of gun and drug convictions.

poll site was busy at 8 am, busier than 2 yeaars ago. interesting as there's little doubt of outcomes around here (NYC).

A “bootstrappy type”?

" i'm an immigrant and i was homeless and i worked my way back into a job and if i can do it everyone else can do it and socialism is tyranny and is destroying america."

As in ‘pull yourself up by your bootstraps’. Yank version of ‘get on your bike’.

Thanks - suspected that might be the meaning but wasn’t sure.

Always seemed to me that the saying indicated a shaky understanding of physics.
