A watch thread for N. American Christian nationalism, Christo-fascists and the evangelical far right

This is worth a read.

It's about the prosperity gospel. The more you give to the preachers the more you'll get back in material wealth. Seems legit.

Blessed: A History of the American Prosperity Gospel by Kate Bowler.

I think it may be the most cynical thing I've heard of late.

I don't understand how this kind of thing isn't such an obvious scam to enough people, such that scummy preachers can end up living lives of luxury while their flock struggle to pay the bills. It's like with MLMs, how do they not notice that most people who get stuck in this shit still end up being poor for the rest of their lives while a tiny minority fly around in private jets?

In a word desperation. I'm an atheist and I'm wary of the word but they are evil. There are much worse things in the world but the cynical exploitation of people on their last legs so they can get a better Lear jet takes some beating.

Not sure this fits here exactly although I think he qualifies

Clarence Thomas’ connections to wealth and expensive vacations run deeper than billionaire businessman and Nazi-enthusiast Harlan Crow. The New York Times reports that Thomas has milked relationships with the rich he made through the Horatio Alger Association of Distinguished Americans, a scholarship association, to benefit himself and his wife.

I've noticed a trend on social media. Some people on RW channels saying something like "the Austrian Painter" or "the little corporal" was right, or "we should have listened to the Austrian Painter." They aren't banned from Youtube or TikTock for this support of Nazism. They use these little coded phrases to sell this shit to unsuspecting young people. One of the reasons I watch that kind of stuff is to understand what coded language they're using on kids now, so I can recognize it. They're really making an effort to look like normal people and normalize these views. The don't look like skinheads (well, most of them) anymore.

this is also the one who's stymieing appts because the army is woke.
i'm not sure what side to pick here, but fuck tuberville.

Here's an explanation of some of the current Nazi coded language out there:

She knew a few that I wasn't aware of.

Another recent thing I've noticed is posting pics of Zelensky with Hitler/other Nazi quotes alongside. A few even photoshop-on the moustache.

Trying the append the ideas to a new generation?

Hardly surprising, Trumpianity supplants woke Jesus. The bible was right to beware of False Prophets.

the guy interviewed in there set off an explosion when he quit his church job (it's mentioned in the article). he was/is prominent among Baptists.
this woman, no relation, quit with him. Beth Moore - Wikipedia

Bigoted, money-grabbing, homophobe, Franklin Graham, is coming to Excell and other venues to spread his venom. The supposedly woke TfL is renting him advertising space on our stations. I've moaned on Twitter to the Mayor and might go and shout outside Excell, which is owned by the Emirati cuntprinces. Does anyone else have other ideas about ways of raging?

At the end Graham usually has people who are "willing to accept Jesus in their heart" come forward to be blessed. Get a lot of people together to mob them at the end, and then as a group say "nope, you corrupt MF." Bring out some hidden signs and have your protest there. It'll ruin the end of the show.

Scary shit that happens when these bastards get together. And honestly it sounds like any of the GOP candidates would go for this, but especially Little Donnie Fuckface because he really wouldn't give a shit what the consequences were:

As an aside, the word “woke” appears, without definition, 35 times in the document.

The bit about criminalising LGBTQ+ people didn’t jump out at me, but she is not exaggerating on the points I could easily find.

I watched a video the other day from an ex-Evangelical that partially explained the thing that really gets me - the fact that Christians can see Tr*mp even as a Christian, let alone as the saviour of Christianity. But she explained that it is hugely significant that some Evangelical leaders put him forward as the man annointed by God to Save America. If the leaders say it, it's true, end of.

The fucking hypocrisy, of course, when those Evangelicals know full well Tr*mp is a piece of shit without a Christian bone in his body - but also know he is vain and power-hungry enough to do whatever they want because he's aware they have a totally malleable power base he can build on, and he doesn't give a toss what the consequences are of introducing a repressive theocracy on America, as long as he is the one that gets to do The Big Thing that he knows a powerful minority would approve of, and therefore approve of him.

There’s a thing among some evangelicals of referring to him as “the Heathen King” (which may or may not relate to something scriptural). I think some QAnon types also picked up the term (I’m prob half-remembering a podcast here).

So I don’t think they all see him as a Christian as such, even though he is seen as part of the Big Plan. But I’m sure some do - they’re not known for consistency.

Well, they have to have some way of dealing with the cognitive dissonance; I suppose seeing him as a unlikely tool of God's will (he's certainly a tool of some kind ;) ) is one way of dealing with it. 'He's the only one who'll do what we want, and if that's because he's a self-serving scumbag who wants to feel important, so be it'.

From some of the sources I've seen, they consider him a flawed king, who god, none-the-less used to further His Plan. I've heard him compared to King Cyrus:

this is a habit of the rightwing mind it seems. the same was said about Bush Jr., by the same set of people. i remember this very well from the invasion-of-iraq internet shouting matches i was getting into then. now it's Trump, who opposed the invasion of iraq.

by co-incidence* this from last year just was put in front of me by a read-also algorithm

*or is it co-incidence?

e2a and as if in some divine joke, this is one of the people in that newsweek article:
