A watch thread for N. American Christian nationalism, Christo-fascists and the evangelical far right

In a totally unsurprising development, US fascists are becoming increasingly creepy weirdo sex cases.

Last week, Gutfeld hosted a far-right figure named Hotep Jesus, who is known primarily for being an apologist for white supremacists and anti-semites. Hotep Jesus, whose real name is Bryan Sharpe, was on the show to promote a "dating" blog that is, in actuality, propaganda for domestic abuse. As Media Matters chronicled, Sharpe regards it as a form of adultery if women are "allowed" to work or vote. "Imagine guts, sweat, and tears shed only to watch your woman get dolled up only to prance around another man’s office while he gives her marching orders," Sharpe writes, claiming, "Women WANT to give up control of their life," and that they only vote, work, or otherwise make decisions because of "the pressure of modern society."

This incel dogshit is barking and comes in different flavours:

What's notable is this extremism isn't just relegated to the world of fundamentalist Christianity. The more secular and more proudly fascist right — which is increasingly cossetted and promoted by the tech billionaire world of Elon Musk and his buddies — has been aggressively promoting pseudo-scientific arguments in favor of extreme curtailing of sexual freedom.

The most prominent example is Costin Alamariu, a self-declared fascist who has become an "intellectual" darling on the right for putting a faux-intellectual gloss on some of the most evil impulses of the MAGA movement. He's been blogging for a long time under the name "Bronze Age Pervert," which makes him sound fun, but of course, he's anything but. His book, "Selective Breeding and the Birth of Philosophy," has become an Amazon bestseller because he's promoted by the grossest people on the internet. He proposes strict control over human "breeding" on the facetious grounds that it's necessary for the betterment of humanity, which he mostly understands in extremely racist terms. In his newsletter, John Ganz quotes Alamariu's writing:

"I make the case in this introduction that this same matter of selective breeding, whether sexual selection, or various societies' management of marriage and reproduction, constitutes the most important part of morality, legislation, or of the "lawgiver's art," and that a sharp awareness of this reality is what led, again, to the discovery of the standard of nature and the subsequent birth of philosophy."

Expect more misogynist noncery from these hypocrites.

"The as-yet unscheduled recall election signifies trouble for not just Miner and Ledesma, but also a batch of newly seated Republican school boards in Southern California that have embraced cultural wedge issues in recent months"

absolutely vile. but unsurprising.

When the deputy sheriff asked how the pair had obtained the book, Gurski and Tapley were coy. They confirmed Storm and Fury was not checked out by their own children or a student they knew personally. The real story of how Storm and Fury made its way to the Santa Rosa County Sheriff's Office shows the lengths that Moms for Liberty and its allies will go to persecute public school librarians.

On November 9, WEAR, Pensacola's ABC News affiliate, ran a segment on the Storm and Fury controversy, which featured an interview with the mother of the 17-year-old student who checked out the book from Jay High School. "I'm very angry that my daughter was used to do someone else's dirty work," said the mother, who was not identified by name. According to the mother, neither she nor her daughter were informed that Storm and Fury would be turned over to the police, and everything was done "without…permission." The mother said Storm and Fury "has never been read by my daughter," and Moms for Liberty "should not use children that they are supposedly trying to protect."

Unsurprisingly, Trump supporters, especially white evangelicals, are in the vanguard of this movement. Nearly one-third of white evangelicals, regardless of party affiliation, expressed support for political violence — easily the highest among all Americans. Among Americans with a favorable view of Trump, 41% of people are open to violence from “true American patriots.”

“They see nonwhites and non-Christians changing the country,” Jones said, “and if you think this is God’s will, and who the country is for, it’s a very short step from there to advocate for violence to protect that vision.”

The PRRI findings forecast a bumpy road ahead to the 2024 election. One of the two major political parties is under the sway of a corrupt authoritarian who is using race, religion, disinformation and attacks on the rule of law to keep an increasing share of his base that both he and his party are dependent on to win elections — or to support them if they claim, in the face of a loss, that the election was stolen. We have seen this before with the deadly attack on the Capitol. The country must be prepared to repel a repeat performance.

The report cited in that article:

Introduction

In this divided era of American politics, the nation turns its eyes toward an unprecedented presidential election, with two of the oldest leading candidates in history — one of whom is facing federal and state indictments related to efforts to overturn the previous election. The 14th Annual American Values survey, conducted by PRRI in partnership with the Brookings Institution, examines Americans’ attitudes about the leading candidates for president, potential support for third-party candidates, and the issues that define these partisan and cultural fault lines. The survey illuminates Americans’ concerns about the overall direction of the country, the state of the economy and inflation, public education, social connectedness, and the broader health of our democracy. Additionally, the survey highlights attitudes about abortion, gender and LGBTQ issues, immigration, foreign policy, Christian nationalism, and support for QAnon, among other issues.

What's really nasty about this is that they tried to get a librarian arrested on felony charges for a fairly innocuous book. I'm sure these ladies have read more salacious stuff in their "romance novels".

well at least it's nothing new. on this day ...

"Mrs. Thomas J. White of the Indiana Textbook Commission calls for the removal of references to the book Robin Hood from textbooks used by the state’s schools. Mrs. White claimed that there was “a communist directive in education now to stress the story of Robin Hood because he robbed the rich and gave it to the poor. That’s the communist line. It’s just a smearing of law and order and anything that disrupts law and order is their meat.” "

Trump isn't exactly a bastion of Christian morality though which makes their love of him baffling

Did the Christian right even put up a challenger this time?

I know it isn't really worth engaging with those arguments, but I mean... surely selective breeding is what people do naturally anyway? People are highly selective about their partners, and a lot of the selection process happens on a purely biological level (e.g. pheromones indicating compatible immune systems etc).

Even taken on its own terms, eugenicism will probably achieve the reverse of its professed goals by interfering with this process, as so much of the mate selection process is based on invisible biological cues that can't be consciously known and planned for. Especially if the policy is designed by racists who think interracial relationships are degenerate when in fact interracial children tend to have fewer genetic defects (part of why someone a bit exotic can naturally seem more alluring).

The funny thing is that we already have practical examples of what happens when eugenics is rigorously applied to mammalian organisms. "Pure" breeds of dogs have severely restricted gene pools, and this contributes to them having a prevalence of congenital problems such as hip dysplasia, cancer, and epilepsy. We can observe similar problems when human reproduction is artificially restricted, including Habsburg jaws and haemophilia, so it's not as if we're any different from the other animals in that respect.

As well as instinctive attraction to people who look different, there are also some human cultures that practice exogamy (marriage outside of one's immediate social circles), likely a product of some hard lessons learned over generations.

I had an encounter with this guy on Reddit and it's made me seriously wonder what the fuck is going on.

what-the-hell.PNG

Guy blocked me after he replied to my post, and I felt like I had to edit in the second paragraph of my post because this shit is just wild to me. Is there some kind of political language barrier at work or something? It seems a major overreaction to me to lump in the folks who find it hard to believe in the depravity of their fellow citizens, with the very people who knowingly embrace and propagate said depravity. Or am I way off base on this? What the fuck is going on?!

I think you've come across a terminally online idiot on Reddit. There are plenty of them.

I don't even know what he's on about with fascism being a dichotomy and the only one in political philosophy or something. Sounds like some tosser who's trying to reply in academic wankspeak but doesn't know what any of it means.

Cheers. The thing that was bothering me about that was the apparent implication that being apolitical or hell, just being honestly mistaken about the real popularity of fascism, is just as bad as being an enthusiastically goose-stepping Nazi. Which seems fucked up to me.

I thought "I'm holier than thou" brigade on reading your post

A charitable interpretation of their actions is that they too are just as scared as those in denial but are casting about for absolutes to try and scare others 'into line' or to make them 'piss or get off the pot', so to speak. Doesn't detract from the fact that they are being a total cock whilst going about it though!

Comitt., Though.

You obviously hold the idea of God in such contempt.

Swear yourselves against God. Here now.

Do it.

'Satan, I hate God. I will do all your will.'

Do it. This is your chance.

You don't believe and think it's a joke?

Do it in defiance of me. Claim Satan and reject Christ,

Do your best to embrace Satan. all his works.

What on earth are you on about? Why would anyone want to 'claim Satan"? He doesn't exist.
