A watch thread for N. American Christian nationalism, Christo-fascists and the evangelical far right

My boss was sounding pretty depressed about the midterms on a call earlier. We've never spoken about politics but given she's sound, not religious and a gay woman living in San Francisco, I'm pretty sure she's not voting Republican.
Same here for my colleague across the bay in Oakland, He's a married gay guy and is starting to think about moving to Canada.

The Republicans are just pure cancer. A deranged death cult that need to be eradicated

My local climate change group held a conference, followed by a protest walk. We had a group of right-wingers with large diesel trucks with smog emitting stacks show up for the walk. They followed us and yelled stupid shite. I'd never seen a "burner" before, so I was a little shocked. They actually have designed their trucks to emit as much smog as possible. I just don't get the mindset.

I've suggested several times elsewhere that maybe when all trucks are electric, they'll come up with after-market "coal-rolling" equipment.

Destroying your engines and your fuel economy to own the libs. I bet they also complain about fuel prices too?

I too have trouble comprehending the mindset which ties its identity so firmly not just to internal combustion, but to doing it in the crappiest way to boot. The mindset of a toddler in the body of an adult.

They're just fucking evil pieces of shit aren't they? This Ronny Jackson cunt isn't a thicko, he's a doctor and has a degree in marine biology. He says this shit for money and power, not because he believes any of it. He's prepared to watch the world go up in flames, pose an existential threat to humanity and pose serious danger to his kids and grandkids so he can get his grubby little hands in government. Hard to comprehend our people can be so savage, no barbarous, so evil.

Also American Indians backing republicans (56% to 37%) - what’s the story there, how does this very marginalised group fall into the Republican camp, is this normal?

There's a tendency toward social conservatism, traditional gender roles, and support for gun rights in some tribal communities.

There's also been some Republicans who have been very visible in supporting native rights such as John McCain and Neil Gorsuch.

The only Vice-President from a Native American background was a Republican.

A BBC piece about the rise of the evangelical Christian Right.

What do you mean?

If you’re talking about subtleties of interpretation I agree, but I suspect you’re thinking of something more blatant.

Rather than splitting this discussion over several threads I’ll answer here.

Owen Morgan has several different YT channels and keeps a close eye on the whole RW evangelical Christian thing that’s currently playing out. I don’t see a specific video covering their blasphemy but trust me he comments on it regularly.

He knows his bible (escaped from the JW) and has made it his job to look at the books and sermons of these people. He often pulls them up on specific points, and points out where they are at odds with church doctrine. I’ve not watched every one, and of those I’ve watched I’ve rarely watched the entire video, and I’m certainly not going to go back and try to find instances where he highlights blasphemy. If I see again I’ll link it here for you.

In the meantime a couple that recall:

Greg Locke refusing to stop church gatherings during lockdowns in clear opposition to the OT, which says that when there’s sickness peI’ll e should cover their faces and not congregate. And the NT says “where one or two gather in my name…” and again Greg Locke go saying he’s not going to stop large gatherings because that’s how church works.

Also Greg Locke threatening arm his congregation in order to resist anyone trying to enforce masks or lockdown.

Just the entire idea that Trump is the messiah is blasphemous isn’t it?

Also, many of them claim to be prophets. Actual prophets of God. And then they prophecy all kinds of weird shit that’s specific to American politics.

Google for Greg Locke blasphemy and you’ll see more. Or google for evangelical preacher blasphemy/blasphemous and you’ll see some too.

Also check out the American Patriot’s Bible…

THE ONE BIBLE THAT SHOWS HOW ‘A LIGHT FROM ABOVE’ SHAPED OUR NATION. Never has a version of the Bible targeted the spiritual needs of those who love our country more than The American Patriot’s Bible. This extremely unique Bible shows how the history of the United States connects the people and events of the Bible to our lives in a modern world. The story of the United States is wonderfully woven into the teachings of the Bible and includes a beautiful full-color family record section, memorable images from our nation’s history and hundreds of enlightening articles which complement the New King James Version Bible text.

The “prophets of God” thing isn’t blasphemous in terms of mainstream Christianity - it’s one of the “gifts of the Spirit” (speaking in tongues is one of the others and there are others too but my memory is failing me right now. Maybe healing?).
The more charismatic Anglican churches in the UK would hold to this.

I do agree that calling Trump the literal Messiah would be an issue for mainstream Christianity, though.

I don’t think anything relating to lockdowns really impacts on official church doctrine.

You’re right that Son of God and Son of Man are different, and Trumpists seem to be claiming him as Son of Man rather than Son of God… but these finer points of debate don‘t make most radars ping properly. It just makes them ping enough to make some people start to open wide and swallow.

Yeah, I take your point, and it’s interesting to debate this stuff. But as I said just now, the people who are paying attention to this horse shit aren’t going to be teasing out the niceties.

If you want to take Satan on properly, you’ll be wanting this one:

I agree that there are nuts out there who will swallow anything. The churches tend to be quite keen on enforcing boundaries, though.
Which makes me wonder who is doing stuff like that painting on the other thread. It almost looks like parody.

It does look like parody. The entire enterprise looks like parody.

Here’s another billboard. Again, it was challenged and removed but the fact that it was erected at all is significant.
