It's all good, man
Because animals tend to not care that we're growing them for us.Why would you need a gun to grow plants?

To kill the pigeons that would eat them.
Go on, explain how you'd stop crows eating your crops. There are numerous ways of protecting plants from animals, most of them a lot more efficient than trying to shoot them all.
FFS! You don't have much knowledge or experience of agriculture I see.
In my experience, farmers have actively encouraged the shooting of pests by gun owners. I virtually lived on pigeon and rabbit for a couple of years. You seriously imagine gardeners and farmers protect their plants by sitting sentry 24/7 with a shotgun?
Lol.
Rabbits - the burrows are dangerous, like actually life threatening, to cattle and horses - foxes, who kill large numbers of lambs and chickens, and pigeons, who can decimate crops.

Why don't you take this up with glitch hiker who introduced the notion? That will come out. I don't think anyone will be under the impression he logged on a few dodgy websites last week and then this happened.
I'll have you know that I've saved several fields of oilseed rape from devastation by pigeon.Yes but they didn't rely on you and your ilk!
If they did, we'd all be going hungry.

Believe what you like.Nonsense.
Believe what you like.
Sorry, I thought we were talking about actual farming, not your little vegetable patch. It's not how I would, it's how I (and we) do.
A combo of netting, chicken wire, and stringing up old cds to spin in the breeze.
That's the plants that aren't in a polytunnel or greenhouse, obviously.
You can make these things that scare crows. I can't remember what they're called.Go on, explain how you'd stop crows eating your crops.
Guns? You can make these things that scare crows. I can't remember what they're called.
When I was in India you‘d often see outside an house a pile of harvested corn or whatever with a dead crow on a stick dangling over itGo on, explain how you'd stop crows eating your crops.
That's exactly how every farmer I know does it. Dead crows pegged out in fields on poles. When I was in India you‘d often see outside an house a pile of harvested corn or whatever with a dead crow on a stick dangling over it
Try thinking outside of the box here. The state as nanny keeper fails. We don’t need the state to fix this. We need each other: it’s the only way it is achievable
Guy might well have subscribed to a misogynistic ideology, but looking at the list of victims I don’t think he was too fussy about who he was shooting up, except for his mum that is....More about the victims here:
Plymouth shooting: Who were the victims? - BBC News
"In a deadly spree that lasted six minutes, the gunman killed two women, two men and a three-year-old girl.
He also shot two other people who continue to receive treatment in hospital.
Davison then turned the gun on himself, taking his own life.
Police were called to Biddick Drive shortly after 18:11 BST - arriving on the scene within six minutes."
"Police have named the shooter's mother, Maxine Davison, as his first victim.
The 51-year-old - also known as Maxine Chapman - was shot and killed inside an address on Biddick Drive.
Jake Davison then went into the street and shot dead three-year-old Sophie Martyn and her father, Lee Martyn, 43."
"He next killed Stephen Washington, 59, before shooting Kate Shepherd, 66, who later died in hospital.
All those who died lived in the Keyham area, Devon and Cornwall Police said.
The gunman also shot a 33-year-old man and a 53-year-old woman, who remain in hospital with injuries which are not thought to be life threatening.
They have not yet been named by police."

I'm assuming your comment about white supremacy is aimed at me, although I only spoke about white privilege. My response would be that it's definitely helpful to talk about white privilege in this context because when similar crimes are committed by people who aren't white, the response of the general public is very different, and that is something that points to societal issues that need to be dealt with. It is possible to think that and also think that mental health services are underfunded across the whole country, and that deprived areas of England suffer from the most underfunding despite people who live there often being those most in need of support.I grew up in Plymouth.
Looked at local news and as I expected Plymouthians have been paying their respects.

Plymouth is not a rich town. Unlike the more fashionable bits of South West its relatively poor.
Its also compared to my home London a small place. So this would have big effect.
From reading Guardian today there are reports the shooters family had been concerned about his behaviour but the mental health section of NHS had told them they didn't have resources to deal with it in pandemic.
Plymouth being a poor town services are stretched.
If this is accurate I hope their is serious look at how seaside town like this needs more resources.
I don't think comments on white supremacy or farmers on this thread really help.
A lot of people struggle in South West of England. Farmers, Fisherman and working class people in South West are often forgetton with the concentration of news on other parts of England.
... yes, I was thinking they are a wide mix of ages and genders...random shooting maybe ?.And the father and child.
I don't claim expertise, but I reckon a shotgun is not going to be quickest or easiest.Go on, explain how you'd stop crows eating your crops.
