See who's been invited to Cameron's emergency NHS bill summit. And get angry

Well worthy of its own thread to show up the dishonest filth that is this government.

David Cameron is holding an emergency summit about the troubled NHS bill on Monday. There has been a lot of chatter on twitter about who is, and is not, invited. It's notable, for example, that the elected head of the Royal College of GPs has not been invited: the NHS bill is all about putting power in the hands of GPs, but they have such serious concerns about the bill that they've called, with regret, for it to be dismissed.

The mere fact it's being opposed by what would be in any normal circumstances such conservative institutions should speak volumes. When you add in the fact that these are supposedly the groups being empowered by the bill and it just goes to show the government's pretty naked interest in turning the nhs into a money funnel into the private sector

This is definitely in no way verging on a situation of a leader being so deluded that he'll only listen to those who agree with him. And I can't quite remember who that reminds me of, but he had a strange moustache.

Quite.

almost all dictators.

If the bodies who have been invited have any conscience or ethics, they'll make their attendance conditional on the RCGP, TCN, RCP and BMA also being invited

Ah, but that's very much a layman's standard of ethics. Doctors have a much higher standard. Each of them is also the most intelligent person on the planet. Therefore, it's their ethical duty not to muddy the waters by allowing sadly misguided colleagues to influence the decision.

It's absolutely gobsmacking if neither the Royal College of GPs nor the BMA are invited given all the focus on GP led commissioning. What about the Patients Association?

But that's laypeople without a clue about medicine (apart from being on the receiving end of it) - stands to reason that they wouldn't be invited. They might wipe their ignorant and grubby hands on somebody's white coat of arrogant superiority.

Not surprised about the surgeons, tbf. You have to be asocial and a bit twisted to make a living cutting people up, IMHO. If these people weren't surgeons, they'd probably be abattoir workers and/or cat-poisoners at the very least.

This is of course all really great news, into the bunker they go. The Tories are really on the run over this iconic Bill - gawd, when Ed Milibean jumps firmly on the "defeat this Bill" bandwagon you just know its got a good chance of defeat ! IF this Bill can be defeated , or the Tories are forced to withdraw it , surely the Coalition will fall apart. Always good to detect some glimmers of good news in these difficult days.

Aren't most of the groups that were in the tolerate list now in the against list?

He might have to have a glass of Chardonnay all on his own.

what does the bill do to the NHS?

(1) Allows far more services to be contracted out to for-profit private providers called things like 'health4people' 'cancerbusters!UK' and 'I can't believe its not good value for money plc'
(2) Empowers health practitioners to do loads of admin to fill their spare time
(3) Gives choice to health customers by empowering them to make their own decisions and make their own incisions*

What's not to love?

tbf I don't think anybody really knows, not even the government.
Well yeah, my surprise was twofold:

1) That at this stage, someone who I assumed followed current affairs to some extent had no awareness of what they're trying to do to the NHS, and
2) That they thought a bazillion page bill with 42 squillion amendment could be adequately summarised in a post on here

I've been looking for links, but most of what I've found assumes some prior knowledge.

Some of these might be useful: http://abetternhs.wordpress.com/straightforward-guide-to-the-nhs-proposals/

It removes the responsibility of the government to ensure healthcare is provided, which is pretty important too.

Good luck starting from scratch. They have (some might say deliberately) made the whole thing so complex and unintelligible that just understanding what the reforms mean in the first place is a major challenge.

yep, functional psychopaths, if it wasn't for their posh backgrounds they'd be murdering prostitutes
