Ron DeSantis' Time is Up

I was texting a friend last night about something on the local news (relating to DeSantis) and my friend said he "is such an extremist [...] I mean, Trump set the bar really low, but somehow DeSantis is setting the bar so much lower that Lucifer can touch it".

I had sent my friend a video of what the news was talking about. It's a 30 second clip, and it was a warning from the NAACP. The news' website actually has a more in depth article about it - NAACP issues travel advisory for Florida, saying the state is 'openly hostile toward African Americans' under Gov. DeSantis' administration .

According to both the clip and the website, the NAACP is issuing a travel ban to the state saying
“Florida is openly hostile toward African Americans, people of color and LGBTQ+ individuals,” the NAACP said. “Before traveling to Florida, please understand that the state of Florida devalues and marginalizes the contributions of, and the challenges faced by African Americans and other communities of color.”

Without too much context, my friend thought it was the most crazy thing he's heard, especially since DeSantis wants to cancel Black History Month, according to a quick second in the video.

The fact DeSantis is on some agenda to fix the state (and then country) and make everyone go backwards in thought, isn't the best thing to do. We've all gotten so far in the past few decades, and this joker is going to ruin it for everyone. Yes, the country and the world has problems, but Ronnie and his rhetoric isn't helping to solve the issues.

Anyway, continuing down the rabbit hole of warnings, according to this article - LGBTQ group issues travel advisory warning for Florida - LGBTQ groups issued travel warnings back in April.

I can't help but think that DeSantis loves this. He may complain publicly about being mischaracterized, but he really seems to enjoy hurting others for not reason other than his own narrow mindedness, He's an absolute horror a human.

All my life I've admired America for its culture and landscape and I've dreamed about going there one day. I am finally _ in my mid 50s - able to afford a flight but I'm not going. First the never ending mass shootings and now this. I wouldn't feel safe even though I'm neither a school kid nor lgbt. America has completely lost its mind.

You're probably right... good or bad, publicity is publicity.

He is a total shit show of a horror of a human, for sure!

Don't come to Florida. That's when you'll wind up getting in trouble.

All (major) cities can have problems. No one is immune. I'm sure there are parts of the country where it's absolutely fine. I just don't know where that is.

Furthest west I've been is Albuquerque, New Mexico, and a drive to Denver, Colorado. Stopped in Sante Fe, NM and Taos, NM on the drive to Denver. Stayed on a farm for a night in Taos. That was actually pretty to be in as there was no big city pollution around for miles, nor were there neighbors. Denver happened so quick, I barely remember it. I spent more time at the different museums in ABQ, than anything else, and I was there for a fortnight.

Furthest north I've been is Kennebunk, Maine, I think. We used to go to Kittery a lot when I was younger. Haven't made it to Canada, but I'm told the brochure looks nice.

Currently the furthest south is Marco Island, Florida, for work. It's about 70 minutes drive south of me. Not been to Miami (much to the queries from frogwoman when she was here) or Key West. Last time I was in Boca Raton (east coast Florida) area, I was visiting family... about 34 years ago.

Times and views have changed, and if DeSantis keeps his bullshit up, the country is in more trouble than anyone can imagine.

Please forgive my simplistic thinking.

Doesn't "woke" mean "becoming aware of social injustice"?

So, if you're against people becoming aware of injustice then you're self confessing that you're profiting from injustice.

Surely, to put it mildly, that's not an attractive trait?

I've been twice. Both to Florida. The first thing I noticed in the media when checking into the hotel in Orlando was the local news reporting an active shooter being hunted in the area.

Later that night at a local bar all the staff were chatting to each other about how lawless their areas were becoming and on another night a local news reporter told me in a bar that Florida is actually one of the most dangerous states to live in but it's generally kept quiet because of the amount of money it brings in tourism.

Generally though if you are savvy and keep to the safe city areas you should be ok but it definitely appears like a country on a slippery slope to anarchy, lawlessness and corruption.

It's certainly not but it seems to be a winner with the current crop of GOP.

It's a term that has morphed from being aware of current and historical injustices to being an umbrella term for everything the right hates and fears.

It is similar to the use of terms like PC, loony left, right on... but much amplified. It's a dog whistle, you'll see it on social media, particularly when a person of colour or an LGBT person or a woman has joined a franchise. Or is simply visible.

At the moment I think he'll struggle to beat Trump, but there is plenty of time for things to change and he's certainly the 2nd best placed candidate.

TBF the 'safe areas' thing is the same in most big cities, but at least in the UK you are very unlikely to be shot.

The two cities where I never had any concerns re safety whilst wombling about at night were Berlin and Amsterdam.

Not attractive, but that's just about the Republican party's MO nowadays. Be afraid of those who have less than you. Keep them down so that you can stay up. It's kind of an inversion of the myth of the American Dream. The American Nightmare.

The message has to be coded, doesn't it, because you can't admit that you want the poor to remain poor? But that's definitely the message.

IMHO, one of the reasons that they make such a big deal out of homeless encampments is because once you're poor, they don't want to have to look at you either.

So he's launched then. I'd say he's a man with skeletons in his cupboard but it's more that he's made a cupboard out of skeletons and put it out on his lawn with an advert for carpentry services.

Which is why there have been news articles saying something about he wants his travel records shielded. I haven't read in to it, but it's probably got something to do with he doesn't want people knowing where he is going or what he's up to in states he doesn't belong in (not campaigning in). As this is happening, the next probable step in hiding information is whatever he's got rattling behind the locked door of a (closet / cupboard / wherever his bullshit crazy falls asleep at night in) is the next thing to be under lock and key. His personal personnel files are going to be so guarded, a cave dwelling leader is going to look like they're an angel. (IMO)

what a cunt

You didn't answer the question, you dumb shit (me saying to DeathSantis). He just wants every answer to every question to be about "gender ideology" and "global warming" problems. Circumventing the original query doesn't help his cause when he finally answered it.

A recent study by the NY Post of book bans found that just 11 people nationwide were responsible for the majority of the book challenges:

00:47
The Post analyzed the complaints to determine who was challenging the books, what kinds of books drew objections and why. Nearly half of filings — 43 percent — targeted titles with LGBTQ characters or themes, while 36 percent targeted titles featuring characters of color or dealing with issues of race and racism. The top reason people challenged books was “sexual” content; 61 percent of challenges referenced this concern.

[...] A small number of people were responsible for most of the book challenges, The Post found. Individuals who filed 10 or more complaints were responsible for two-thirds of all challenges. In some cases, these serial filers relied on a network of volunteers gathered together under the aegis of conservative parents’ groups such as Moms for Liberty.

Here's the chilling part:

The majority of the 1,000-plus book challenges analyzed by The Post were filed by just 11 people.

Eleven people, making these decisions for everyone else. Voters, are you okay with this?

I didn't think I could be shocked any more, but I was by this. I suppose if I look at the bright side, it shows that a very small number of people, who are committed to the cause can make a difference. Too bad, it was for the side of hate.

On the plus side, it’s a problem that could be solved at the gallows in less than an afternoon.

As appealing as that sounds, it might be solved by revamping the book challenge process. Challenges could be limited to people who actually live in a community, have a valid library card, and have read the book. Make them write a 500-word book report, that hasn't been copied from somewhere else and you'd stop most of it. Some might prefer hanging to reading a book.

Don't miss out on your dream due to the distorted impression you get of the country through media. The majority of American cops never fire their guns outside a shooting range for their entire careers. In the US you're 30 times more likely to die in a road traffic accident than be murdered by a stranger.

US has a terrible record on road safety, mind you. Really terrible. 43,000 road deaths in 2021. Compare that to the UK in the same year with 1,500 (UK has a good record on road safety - one of the few things we're pretty good at).

UK number is about 10 per cent down from pre-pandemic; US road deaths actually went up post-covid.

Anyway numbers vary a bit per year but the net result is that US road deaths are usually about five to six times higher than the UK. It is true of course that the average American drives more than the average Briton, but that's still an awful record. It's about three times higher than Canada, where people also drive a lot.

I read an interesting article about his wife earlier, the First Lady, who’s cultivating an image of her own and seems to see his premiership as a shared role. She’s all white gloves, pillbox hats, colour blocking and bouffant hairdo. On the link, people had taken to calling her ‘Tacky O’ which I quite liked.

Yep, bigger vehicles leads to a bigger fatality rate - though as with murders, the road death rate in the US is way down from historic highs, it's now about half of what it was 50 years ago.

Ron's has promised the following

"I will be able to destroy leftism in this country and leave woke ideology on the dustbin of history."

So, more Trumpist rubbish then.
