Kamala Harris' time is up

Not sure how much truth there is in that report, which is from the Spectator - Oprah Winfrrey's company was paid to produce a campaign event but she says she didn't take a personal fee - I don't know if any performers were paid but just their flights, accommodation for crews etc. would have cost the campaign a lot. Wonder if they'd be lamenting the lack of an Alanis appearance if the election had been closer
I suspect we will find out a little more about the financial breakdown at some point .

Harris lost because no one (including herself) knew what she stood for.

On being asked what she would do differently to Biden, she replied that she wouldn't have changed anything.

Biden should have conceded much earlier, giving time for a selection process. He didn't and we have Trump for the next four years.

'Loose cannon' does not adequately describe him.
And yet it was absolutely fucking clear what Trump stood for. That alone should have swung the vote in Harris/Walz favour.

This link says it's a load of MAGA shit stirring

Some social media users pointed out that two payments to Winfrey's production company, Harpo Productions Inc, can be found under the Harris campaign's disbursements on the Federal Election Committee website. The payments, of $500,000 each, were made on October 15 and are marked as "event production." It is not clear what these payments were for, but celebrity appearances at political rallies frequently involve costs for things like travel, security, and event production, without necessarily being a direct payment to the celebrity.

I have to say, if a celebrity like Oprah Winfrey (who apparently has a net worth of 3 billion US$) really wants to support the Harris campaign, she can probably afford not to charge $1 million for "event production", whatever exactly that entails.

Her company organised a big Harris fundraiser and that's what the fee relates to. Which I think is fair enough.

Winfrey said her production company Harpo Productions was asked to bring in set design, lights, cameras, microphones, crew, producers and other necessary items to put on the livestreaming event in September. A Harpo spokesperson said in a statement to Variety that the campaign paid for the production costs and that Winfrey was “at no point during the campaign paid a personal fee, nor did she receive a fee from Harpo.”

surely trump only has to arrest the new judges to ensure the process remains fair

or bung in a few of his own choices

I find this EXTREMELY difficult to believe

Obama, Pelosi did not want Kamala Harris to be nominee: Democratic megadonor

  • Biden endorsed Harris within an hour of stepping down
  • Obama took five days to endorse the Vice President
  • Harris' future as the leader of the Democrats is crystal clear

5 days? Is that long???
I can obviously see how it might look bad, but I always assumed it was just to keep the momentum of people supporting her in the news cycle (and Trump out of it) over multiple days.

If everyone announces their support within an hour, it's only a story for a day.

If nothing else, Obama would know how it'd look if he, the last president with any real cultural credit, and the first African-American president, took too long to support Harris, and regardless of whatever else he might feel he surely didn't want to weaken anyone who was going up against Trump.

Then again, humans are quite adept at dismissing logic, so who knows.

“Pelosi told her California delegation, there will be a conference, there will be a caucus, there will be a convention,” Morgan said ... “We basically ran on this deal where ‘democracy, democracy!’ And then we didn’t have democracy in picking our nominee.”

Might have worked out better if there had been more competition for the nomination - maybe they wouldn't have ended up with the vice-president of an unpopular administration promising change but failing to explain how her policies would differ in any great way from the president's

Given the timing I honestly don't see how much of a meaningful democratic process they could have had, especially while also giving the successful nominee any kind of time to get their shit together and campaign.

Biden stepping down so late really did leave them with few, maybe no, good options.
