With or without warbands?

What's the point in being a feudal lord if you don't have a mercenaries loyal warriors to enforce your authority?

Why doesn't the concept of the House of Lords not elicit greater anger from the electorate? We've just gone through nearly five years of disassociating ourselves from the "unelected" and "unaccountable" of Brussels, after decades of moaning about it. Yet barely anything even gets remarked upon regarding bringing the "upper" chamber into the twentieth (sic) century.

Ministers have rejected calls for the House of Lords to have an effective veto over new members, saying it would set a "dangerous" precedent.

Lord Jay said the system had "fallen into disrepute", without caring to articulate when it had any repute.

Some good news, as convicted criminals Conrad Black and Jeffrey Archer are no longer in the Lords.

As far as I know though, they can still call themselves "Lord" until they snuff it, such is the weirdness of our parliamentary system.

Labour are planning on forcing retirement for sitting Lords at 80 years old. Not sure if they will do anything about Johnsons pal Lord Lebedev of Siberia, obviously a security risk.

Sir Keir Starmer has promised to "modernise" the Lords with new rules and by phasing out hereditary peers.
