Pro Cycling 2021

That was some ride, kinda encouraging to see even pro rear wheels go walkies on muddy corners every now and then. Chapeau for staying upright. I don't think I'd even handle the velodrome in that wet :D

The 'fuck that for a game of soldiers' vibe is very strong, though. I have ridden it 3 times, and it's just absurd to think of anything other than upright survival. Fuck knows how they do it at a competitive speed and in a group.

On the official challenge thing, or just rock up and do it?

Offical challenge.

Pretty great cycling weekend, Eurostar to Lille or drive, then ride the route on Saturday (via a 4am coach or train down to the start).

If you can still walk :D, the following day you can watch the race in the Velodrome, or if you're up for it the Arenberg trench (complete with full-gas Dutch/Belgian fans) it's only an hour or so away (and can get back to velodrome for finish).

The film A Sunday In Hell got me in to cycling, so I feel a bit of an affinity or favouritism for the event. But also as a ride, it's genuinely tough, and you can feel like a double hard bastard for completing... yet without any remote inclines beyond motorway bridges, it perfectly suits Naturally Gifted Descenders like myself :D

Next year I'm doing Flanders (for the first time)...

I'm rewatching the race. I missed the first bit. Nasty fall for Vittoria Guazzini. Much pain. Not listed in the results. Hope she's not broken anything.

When I saw she had a two minute lead and loads of riders crashing painfully hard, I reckoned it was over and switched to a dodgy feed of the Giro dell'Emilia.
Epic battle feat Roglic, Remco, Adam Yates, Dan Martin, Mike Woods and more. I love the hilly Italian autumn classics and Lombardia.
Last 10km here. Well worth a watch,

I've bought 23 Dugasts which were bought for Paris Roubaix by a pro team. They were sponsored by Mavic, so Dugast put some really nice Mavic SSC labels on them. Later on they must have fallen off the team truck.

The men are underway. Absolutely brutal looking conditions, let’s hope the inevitable crashes are entertaining rather than damaging.
