Martina Fidanza, aged 21, Martina Fidanza - Wikipedia, won the first gold medal of the championships in the scratch race. She just demolished the field. Asked about her tactics, she said "I go fast, and I win." What a star.

Fidanza has had zero press coverage. It's an actual world championship but it doesn't rate as newsworthy in the cycling press. How come? Is a scratch race not of interest?

Track is only of interest when Britain wins. I’m sure she got coverage in Gazzetta but most people don’t care about track.

Funnily enough I watched The Stars and the Water Carriers by the same director for the first time last night. It's about the 1973 Giro.
There was a time when all the stars rode both Classics and Grand Tours and then we had years of the likes of Indurain, Armstrong and the Skybots who specialised in tours which coincided with lots of marketing money spent by the Tour and ASO to somehow make that race the biggest in the world. I think I'm correct in saying that the Giro was just as big a deal if not bigger back in the 70s.
It's great to see the likes of Pog and Rog doing some of the Monuments.
