Portugal v Germany

Does anybody know why the ref can't just stop the clock in football when there's a stoppage like in rugby, basketball, ice hockey etc rather than relying on some arbitrary subjective measure of how long everyones messing around when the 90 mins are up? Ie, at 90 mins, a hooter/whistle goes and that's that?

Can’t say Portugal didn’t deserve to concede 4 goals as the truth is they were fortunate in the first hour not to concede more . However they gave it a go at parts in the game . Sanchez made a real difference second half , unlucky not to score as well . Not quite sure why they kept Bruno Fernandes on and took Silva off . Would like to have seen Andre Silva come on earlier .
Germany impressive in my book .

Just had a chat with a Portuguese fella whose views on football I often agree with . His main point aside from Portugal’s failure to defend in what was a defensive line up was after this competition it’s time to model the national team without Ronaldo. He said it’s a double bind relying on him even though he delivers , on occasions , as the team for the past ten years has been built around him as the focal point restricting the development of a different attack .

Think tonights results actualli increase opportunitoes for Portugal to go through to the next round. Portugal will make the knock outs unless they lose by more than 3 goals against France or draw or lose and Hungary beat Germany.
Possible first knock out game could be against Holland, then the winners of Denmark/Wales. Might end up with Germany in the semis. All hyperthetical of course.
