Pathetic attempt there!
1. It's totally relevant to thread
2. Includes a comment and quote so not just a link
3. Cross thread beefing and showing yourself up?
Well done, *slow handclap

Had the privilege of hearing Israeli/American anti-Occupation Rabbi Arik Asherman speak today at our rabbi's house - a truly courageous man facing trial next month on made-up charges, really for the 'crime' of defending the rights of Palestinians on the West Bank not to be driven off their land by bastard Settlers.

Among interesting and depressing observations: there are still Israelis standing with Palestinians as he has been doing for years, but the numbers have dropped since 7 October. He described the courts as 'the flak jacket of the Occupation', covering up their land theft with legalese, shrugging their shoulders and saying the police are supposed to intervene when Settlers turn up with their guns (and often uniform willingly lent by the IDF). Also that standing up for human rights is being seen as 'provocation'... a pattern I think we are seeing repeated in too many places around the world now, but used extra gratuitously in Israel.

gsv has been thinking what we can do in response - he was saying it would be good to hear more from Jews in the diaspora opposing Israel's actions and gsv reckons we should maybe leverage our group of fellow congregants who feel the same way to form at least some sort of voice that can put out statements on behalf of British Jews who feel the same way, as this is meaningful support to the very thin line Rabbi Arik represents of Israelis trying to protect Palestinian rights.

But why?
There is no way whatsoever the police would pay attention to a petition other than maybe harvesting the names from it to add to a list!
Would you be happy with a the police paying attention to a petition to free tommeh for example??

Join us in solidarity with the Thales & Govan Cross Arrestees 🇵🇸❤️‍🔥

WHO ARE THE THALES & GOVAN CROSS ARRESTEES?

Two individuals were pulled from the protest outside Thales in Govan on July 3rd. Later that day, a further 11 were violently arrested at Govan Cross after Police Scotland herded the picket as a whole towards the Subway station. These defendants were protesting Thales' manufacture of parts of the Watchkeeper drone (in collaboration with Israeli arms company Elbit Systems) which are used in the Israeli genocide of the Palestinian people. They have their intermediate diets on Tuesday the 17th, Thursday the 19th, and Monday the 30th of December. We need a strong show of support both inside and outside court on the day.

WHAT CAN YOU DO?
👉 Join us! If you have a spare half hour, stand with us as we show solidarity for our neighbours and comrades who will be inside the court.

👉 Get loud. Post your support of the Thales Picket & Govan Cross Arrestees on social media (please don't take/post photos or videos of people's faces).

👉 Support is also needed inside the court. See below for more info on court etiquette and what to expect inside the court room.

If you choose to stay and support:

👉 Please do not speak to the police.

👉 Consider wearing a mask.

COURT ETIQUETTE (please read this if you intend to enter the courtroom)

👉 When you enter the court building, your bag will be searched and passed through a scanning machine. You will not need to show your ID.

👉 When you enter the court, your phone should be switched off. You cannot take placards or banners into court. You are not allowed to eat or drink in court. You might not be allowed to take water bottles in. You shouldn’t speak to each other whilst court is in session, and the duty officer and sheriff will be strict about any conversations between observers in the gallery. Sometimes note taking is accepted, however recently sheriffs have not been allowing notebooks, we will need to play this by ear. Only the press are allowed to take notes on devices.

👉 We will be mobilising our support outside the courts from 9am

CALL OUT!

Urgent - Action requested by Stop L3Harris campaign!

Deadline: next Wednesday, 8th Jan 2025.

We're calling on all our members and supporters to support an urgent action requested by the Stop L3Harris campaign.

It will only take 10 minutes or so and you can do it from the comfort of your front room...

The L3Harris arms factory in Moulsecoomb manufactures bomb release mechanisms for the Israeli fighter jets which have been massacring Palestinians in Gaza for 14 months now.

The company are appealing against Brighton & Hove City Council’s 2024 decision to refuse them planning permission for their extension - an extension which has only increased their capacity for mass slaughter.

The case is now going to the Planning Inspectorate (an independent body, based in Bristol), who will decide whether to uphold the Council’s decision or overturn it in favour of the company.

The Stop L3Harris campaign have asked for everyone to write to the Planning Inspectorate (link below) to register their concern about the company’s presence in our city.

You can do this at the following link - then click the "Make representation" button:

STAND IN SOLIDARITY: NO ONE LEFT BEHIND

Join us in supporting activists who took bold action to stand against genocide! On Thursday, 9th January 2025, Mick Napier, founding member of SPSC, and the Borders 5 will face court for exposing and resisting the arms trade in Scotland and its complicity in the Gaza genocide.

As the world watches the devastation in Gaza, it is clear that complicity in this slaughter must end. While the UK arms trade enables and profits from these atrocities, supplying weapons and technology used to oppress Palestin/ans, activists demand an immediate arms embargo to stop the flow of weapons to Israel and to hold those complicit to account.

'No One Left Behind' reminds us that the fight for justice requires collective courage and solidarity.

Your presence at court will show these individuals that they are not alone and will send a powerful message against the normalisation of war crimes.

📌 Edinburgh Sheriff Court
📅 Thursday, 9th January 2025
⏰ From 9:30 AM

Let’s stand together to demand justice for Gaza and a world free from war and oppression. Together, we ensure No One Left Behind.

On Saturday 25th January, friends and supporters of Palestine Action political prisoner, Francesca Nadin, will demonstrate in support of her, and to mark her 39th birthday, a few days before.

Francesca, who has still not been convicted of any charge, has been held at New Hall prison, near Wakefield, since June 2024. By the time she faces trial on criminal damage charges, relating to an attack on a Barclay's Bank branch in Leeds, she will have already spent nine months in prison.

She also faces charges for occupying and dismantling Teledyne's weapons factory in Shipley — in order to halt the production of parts for Israeli missiles and fighter jets.

Palestine Action's campaign against Barclay's, eventually resulted in the bank selling all of their shares in Elbit Systems, Israel's biggest weapons manufacturer, in October 2024.

Francesca is one of 22 political prisoners, held, mostly unconvicted, for taking action to prevent weapons manufactured in Britain, being used to kill Palestinian children, and to expose the British government's complicity, and that of companies like Barclay's, in the Gaza Genocide.

Join the solidarity demonstration from 5.30PM on Saturday 25th January at HMP New Hall, Wakefield!

Bring energy, flags, banners and get ready to make some noise.

From the PSC statement,

The excuse offered by the police is that our march could cause disruption to a nearby synagogue. It follows representations from pro-Israel groups and activists who have been publicly calling for action to be taken to curtail our right to protest against Israel’s ongoing genocide

I know this area. The synagogue is nowhere near the start of the march. It's also not anywhere near route of the march.

There's synagogue a bit north of it. But the march goes south from Portland place.

More details here on those who objected to march start point.

It's not the BBC objecting. It's Chief Rabbi, Community Security Trust, the Central Synagogue in Hallam street and Board of Deputies of British Jews.

I remember going to previous march starting at Portland place. As per usual the march was peaceful.

For these pro Israel groups to complain despite how peaceful the marches have been just shows imo this isn't about safety

It's that they object to large public demonstrations against the ongoing actions of Israel state and IDF in Gaza. If it's not genocide then multiple war crimes have been committed. Including attacks on hospitals.

The synagogue nearby complains that people going to the march have been getting off at Great Portland street underground and walking done to starting point. This is normal place to get off. Though most get off at Oxford circus / bond Street as it's nearer. To walk to start point takes one past the back of synagogue. Rabbi complains he's heard people chanting from the river to the sea.

I mean I get it that certain Jewish groups support Israel and have views on Israel that means they oppose groupe like PSC.

That's democracy. People can loathe each others views and have peaceful demonstrations.

There's no point arguing with Chief Rabbi etc. They have made up their minds and people like me who go on these demos have made up mine. There's no middle ground or compromise

What I object to is groups trying to curtail peoples right to peacefully demonstrate. And experience has shown these are peaceful demos.

I also think what gets to people like Chief Rabbi is these demos aren't just attended by fringe political elements. They comprise a cross section of society that don't share the views of Chief Rabbi ,and the other groups I've mentioned, views on what's happening in Gaza. Or there views on state of Israel

I do have as some sympathy with Met. They have been under pressure from start of these demos by pro Israel groups to curtail them.

PSC spends weeks agreeing routes with Met.

It appears to me tactic by pro Israel groups to wait until last days then pile the pressure on. Hoping to disrupt the marches.

They take a lot of organising and logistical planning. So messing up start of march could cause mayhem .

Join Palestine Action and the Filton 18 campaign in the next major court appearance for the activists being detained without trial under the terrorism act.

MOBILISE: 17th Jan - Old Bailey from 9.30am ‼️

Eighteen people are now held in a prison awaiting their trial after an abuse of counter terror legislation that allowed the state to hold them in solitary confinement for up to a week. They have been charged with non terror offences and accused of costing Elbit Systems, Israel’s largest weapons firm, over 1 million in damages.

Come down and show your support for the prisoners and their families in this unprecedented case. Bring banners and your voices. Mobilise from 9.30am ‼️
