Notting Hill Carnival 2012

The council really want extra toilets: Their sole limitation is funding.

If GT (or any other operator) offer to pay for some more to take the strain off the toilets the council provide, they will welcome them with open arms.
ah yes of course - sorry, had a brain freeze there

Carnival in the rain is not attractive. Certainly last year it was in some ways ace as the gangs were all elsewhere trying to avoid the revenge seeking police.

Looks like I am going, though fuck me train prices have nearly doubled in a year. Glad I didn't decide to try and commute to uni on the train!

tbf its nothing technically to do with carnival...but in a way it is

It's the crudest bullshit of the whole affair. A select few (at a website application thing that sold out as soon as the servers could register - in 2011 it was 36 seconds) gain entrance to a space under the Westway that holds a stage with Major Lazer, Rodigan and a few other paid notaries. There is free drinks and food inside. The council make NOTHING from the venture as it's on private property.

I go every year, blag a name on the list (really doesn't take more skill or guile than the ability to read upside down of the clipboarders) to fill a bag with Redbull, laugh at the crowd that have all arrived via a secret tunnel that stretches to Dalston, and get back in the action.

If the megalomaniacs like Good times can't make it work without branded bars, sponsorship, paid for toilets and so on I suggest they go and fuck off? There are many many sounds who would love to get a space at Carnival and can't get in because of reductions imposed by the police and Council?

With GT's specific case, I'd be inclined to agree.

Redbull is a horrible drink.

Yup, I think I've still got the cans I picked up last year in the car for emergencies.

They do quite a bit of good for 'the scene', though the efforts at carnival leave me with a bit of a sour taste as it's all so against the spirit of everything else going on around.

On the flipside it was the source of one of the most amazing carnival (or otherwise) moments of my life :) http://www.urban75.net/forums/threads/nh-carnival-2011.278715/page-4#post-10419079
