Boring choice = Lee Carsley. Won the U21 Euros last year, beating Spain.
My preference = Wayne Rooney

or Mr pint of wine chugger, again, the only England manager with a 100% winning record. 😄

Seriously, though, I'd rather us stick with Gareth Southgate and I hope he stays. I know it isn't pretty how he plays but he gets results.

If Rooney hadn't had been appointed as Plymouth's new manager before the tournament I genuinely think he might have been in the frame. Would have been a left field appointment but anyone who gets England playing decent football will be one improvement.

You could argue that Southgate's record is better than any manager since Sir Alf Ramsey but unless you win the final you haven't won anything.

Rooney has failed at all his managerial jobs so far. So probably perfect in the eyes of the FA.

Our local paper claims Rob Edwards is on the shortlist, glad to see FA taking my advice.

Whoever the new manager is, I'd love their first press conference to be:

"All that's missing is to be that little bit braver on the ball, so we don't end up too deep playing low percentage long balls and inviting pressure back on ourselves. To that end, we'll be using friendlies and qualifiers to build a settled team and system, giving fringe players opportunities to play too so they're ready when called upon.

As we get used to playing out from the back, taking the ball under pressure and trying to beat the opposition press; there will be mistakes, we will give the ball away. That is on me, not the players; they're following instructions, it's a risk/reward thing and if we get our attacking players a better platform to go and play it will be worth it in the long run."

I'd love it more if journalists and twitter fans actually listened to that too, instead of tearing players down at the first poor cross, missed tackle or wayward pass.

You win a runners up medal. 🥈
I guess so but I think realistically one of those could have and maybe should have been a winners medal.

Onto the future now though and England still have a crop of players that can be in the conversation for winning tournaments whilst hopefully playing good football in doing so.

This next decision from the FA could be their most crucial ever.

Klopp won't do it now anyway, wants a sabbatical.

Hate to say it but I do think our next manager should be English as a priority. Preferably someone who played in the team too... but who isn't a bell end. That makes it quite tough!

I assumed coz he was on the telly during the Euros he was unemployed. I expect he will be free to pursue new opportunities later in the year.

Because there aren't enough female coaches?
So these men have to adapt slightly, to take into account the differences between the men's and women's games.

The same as a woman would do travelling the opposite direction.

Known and respected within the FA, with a major title under her belt already at international level. I think she'd be an inspired choice.

stick the lass in

jebus might make the difference to the men side that be lacking for 60 years

It's a lot easier for a man to travel in that direction than a woman to travel the other way. You need to have experience in the big games and Womens football has a couple a year whereas mens has them all season.

Big games, like a European Championship final?
