Mass stabbing at Southport Kids’ Club 29/7/24

oh alright derail off

withstanding the interlude, the death penalty being active in the country would of had no effect on the criminal actions and would of acted as a deterrent to the same events that unfolded

but heyho if you believe the legal system should be state sponsored vengeance then we have to agree to disagree

Shut up, you boring git.

When this country got rid of the death penalty, it wasn't a divisive left/ right issue. People were widely, on both sides of the divide, genuinely appalled by this barbaric and outdated practice. Sadly that generation are dying off and it's people shouting for the return of it who have never lived through an era where it's a thing.
Yep.

Quite simply killing people is wrong, no matter who they are or what they have done. And that's not through any sense of sympathy for people like Rudakubana who, quite frankly, I hope has a very long and very miserable life.

I'm just trying to understand this logic. You're wishing a miserable 50 years on someone, but at the same time think that the death penalty is 'wrong' ?

Whoa there. There are many circumstances in which killing people is wrong but there are equally times in which it is right and necessary. Context as ever is important.

And Tiktok it's full off people live streaming saying hes this and that.... etc all a cover up, he's a man in this 30, MI6 and all the other fake news around it.

Posting unfounded speculation about "cover ups" fuels far-right politics. We should not make explosive claims.

There is no evidence that I've seen of a cover up.

There's no cover up here.

"Despite what you may have read in parts of the media, this case showed our criminal justice system is as objective and robust as ever, argues lawyer Gareth Roberts ..."

The "cover-up" that never was:

The Axel Rudakubana Southport Murder ‘Cover Up’ Conspiracy Theories Debunked

Complete nonsense, I'm afraid.

There's a thread started for your fantasy here -

I wouldn't characterize it like that, given that a firm majority supported the death penalty when it was abolished, and this remained the case for many years after.

This Amazon stuff is such bullshit. The perp was caught in the net a whole bunch of times and was allowed to slip it by incompetent authorities but apparently it was Amazon at fault for selling knives without full background checks.

Does anyone think that Axel Rudakubana should be given any hope whatsoever that he might one day be released from prison?

Or does the notion that he may one day, in many decades to come, walk the streets as a free man, utterly disgust you?
Should never see the light of day maybe the parents should be questioned apparently they stopped him a week earlier going to his old school with knife to attack student's.
They should of stopped him.

It sounds like nobody took them seriously. How should they have stopped him?
If I caught my son with knife going to his old school to attack student's I would of done alit more to prevent it.

Yes he had already been seen by ( prevent) by expressing violent tendencies but not by being stopped by his parents for getting into taxi .

My suspicion is he was a groomed islamists the attack very similar to lots of jihad attacks.

PdF file entitled ‘Military Studies in the Jihad Against the Tyrants: The Al-Qaeda Training Manual, of a kind likely to be useful to a person committing, or preparing, an act of terrorism, contrary to Section 58 of the Terrorism Act 2000.

What is this nonsense?

He also accessed IRA material, does that make him a Irish terrorist?

The fact is, he was obsessed with the idea of killing people, Al-Qaeda/IRA material would be handy under such circumstances, there is no evidence of these murders being of a jihad nature, you are just repeating nonsense from the far right, trying to stir up trouble, give your head a wobble.

It is this bit that the government needs to get its head around, rather than trying to widen further the definition of "terrorist" to include people like him.

My personal view is that its long past time now that the state - and it needs to be a fully joined up process involving cops, social workers, courts, schools, the NHS and others like web firms and banks - develop a definition for and a means of dealing with people who are likely to pose / at risk of posing severe risks to others in ways that are not terrorist. There are a lot of similarities between what Rudakubana did with the other spree killers (like Ryan, Hamilton or Bird), as well with as those who destroy their own families. The horror rarely comes along completely out of the blue, with various people and organizations identifying bits of the risk (without ever having enough of a picture to do something effective pre-emptively) and so there would be opportunities to intervene in many cases if a system existed to identify and manage people who could potentially take these steps.

Yes his former class mates mentioned that but he downloaded Al Qaeda material all the hall marks of a jihad attack lone wolf.

What is troubling is that many of his former classmates have mentioned a long history of abusive, threatening and disruptive behaviour in school - something likely labelled by teachers/social workers under labels like ADHD and Autism. I suspect many such kids similarly labelled, who likely have no intention of going down a similar path, may well be scrutinised as never before in the future because of this.

Some of the facts:

"Axel Rudakubana’s parents asked police for help to cope with their violence-obsessed son in one of a string of callouts over his worrying behaviour before the Southport attack, it can be revealed.

Officers from Lancashire Constabulary attended the family’s three-bedroom home four times between 2021 and 2022, but each time failed to identify the threat he posed ..."

Warning signs missed: Southport killer Axel Rudakubana’s parents asked police four times for help with teen

Social workers and police had been informed - you don't know this yet insist you have the case sewn up based on anti-Muslim suspicion. Your bigotry won't persuade people here so you're wasting your time, but to spread the kind of nasty rumours we saw lead to the riots last Summer is not only dangerous but it's disrespectful to the victims and loved ones especially since the perpetrator was only sentenced yesterday.
