Living off the land 100%

Stan everyone's life is extraordinary, i just don't get that you think yours is more so  If people were to write about the people they meet, the things that happen to them, their stoned contemplations every day.. they would have long threads about it as well, and i suspect people ribbing them too. Your descriptions of survival and name/place dropping are as if no one but you are doing anything other than waiting to die or something? I can assure you that this is just not the case  I find that you couldn't make life up most days and i suspect that this rings true for all... I'm not really sure what you would consider a 'valuable' post tbh.. I was finding your thoughts about decriminalisation interesting though, i'd like to hear more about that but tbh i reckon i will get more insight by googling?

Anyway, enjoy the sun and your smoke :)
I think Stan's life change gave him a revolutionary happiness, and because his life in the uk with steady income and home etc didn't work out for him, he is prepared to accept and dismiss the privations of his life.

The problematic thing is that he's unusually weak at seeing alternative perspectives. He can't conceive that anyone else is combining the stable life he hated with a rich tapestry of experiences and fulfilment. And similarly, that the particular life that gives him happiness doesn't appeal to everyone.

It's exacerbated, I'm sure, by his awareness that he has artistic talent, that he rightly believes most of us don't possess (not caring to contemplate what talents we may have). His lifestyle is facilitated by his ability to create art. People who don't have that skill are, in Stan's mind, unable to live his life, and that's the only reason why they do not.

Well said

Most of the Portuguese I know earn between 800-1000 euro a month maximum pre tax etc . A lot are out of work and on benefits Nov-February at 80% of their wages if they are on contract.

I am just glad he hasn't, as far as we are aware, so far, foraged a chicken.

Although with the rumours of visits to McDonalds & Pizza Hut, I am sure KFC will be on the 'to do list'.
I fully intend to 'steal' crops. There is an old by-law here which states anyone can help themselves to any crops growing in the countryside if it is for personal consumption - a couple of onions etc is fine. Of course, not all farmers will respect this forgotten law. I also intend to steal eggs and chickens  I will not raid fields full of asparagus by night which is big business in Spain these days. Farmers are having to employ night security in some areas.
