Living off the land 100%

Woke at about 7AM in a sand bunker on a golf course :D

And went foraging for golf balls...

Stan, please spend a day sorting yourself out. If you've spent a while eating figs and drinking strong beer your whole system probably needs a rest now. At least find an actual room with a bed and a bathroom and drink some water or pop or something and eat some carbs. Even if it's just for one day/night.I don't want to rain on your parade but I have a horrible feeling that when it goes wrong it will be horrific. You can always carry on tomorrow.

Faro.

I am fucked. That beer I was drinking all day long yesterday turned out to be 7% Vol IPA. Portimao started to stink. A very strange sulphurous smell rising from the drains, and then drifting in from the sea across the entire town. I couldn't stomach it, so started a midnight hike across the bridge.

I like Faro so far (haven't been here long - small place, but happening enough).

Think I will just work the morning and move on. Nice enough place, but not that nice.

Seriously need to sleep.
the beer was Sagres Bohemia its their top range beer, comes in three styles

I know it well :D

Five styles now.

Bohemia Original.
Bohemia Bock.
Bohemia Trigo.
Bohemia IPA.
Bohemia Puro.

They are all very good, but I don't like the way both Sagres and Super Bock are aggressively trying to knock everybody else off the shelves. In this case, it is a very mean attempt to kill all the micro-breweries :(

Its been quite a walk from the north and then from Portimao to Faro but very little description of what was walked through?

I am sort of feeling the tiredness of summer now. Concentrating on making cash and work connections to get me through the winter. Also have a sense that all the seasonal workers are now just waiting for summer season to end, so they can get back to normality.

The hiking has been absolutely beautiful almost everywhere. I'm close to home now, and the general ambience is beginning to feel more like the Med' than the Atlantic. The Algarve has a very different flavour to the rest of Portugal. Most of the walk to Faro from Portimao I did at night, but it was still fabulous. Relatively easy, following paths almost running alongside the railway. The landscape at times almost convinced me I was already back in Andalucia.

I like Faro. I've been given many mixed reviews about the place. Seems to be one of those places people love, or hate. I would certainly veer towards the love camp - it is a very real, unpretentious town with some lovely buildings and a fair sprinkling of tourist sparkle. I had no problem finding bars still open at 5AM this morning. I like towns with that sort of convenience. I was going to move on more, or less immediately, but I think I have changed my mind. I'll give it a few days here. Not great cash, but very easy to make enough.

Please don't worry. I am more than healthy.

Or perhaps on a train following the railway running alongside paths

So why do you insist on buying it/drinking it?

A sketch from Porto has made it's way home to Switzerland :D

Another happy client. It is looking very much like I have picked up Eight new, long term clients on this trip. Excellent stuff.

When I reach Tavira I will write a review of EVERYTHING I got of real value from Portugal. I have fucking well loved it. Even the shits, the wonky foot, the olive oil spillage... all of it has been fucking marvelous :)

So you piss on the microbreweries while lamenting their demise.

You know what? I like good beer. If the supermarket shelves offered an option between a €1 bottle from a big brewery, or a €2 bottle from a small independent, I would willing pay the double price. But, there isn't that option, and I am not rich enough to buy €4.50 bottles every time I fancy a beer.

I seriously hope you work alone.

Just because you are a sad, lazy, boring fuck doesn't mean everybody else is. Will you fuck off with all your snide shit. You have fucked this thread entirely with your jealous, immature twattery.
Yeh yeh. The reasons this thread doomed from the off in one brief post: for a start you're delusional, thinking everyone's jealous of you. I'm most certainly not jealous of you as I've made clear above.

As i stated on my job application I am equally comfortable working independently or with colleagues.

You talk about being careful about what you eat. But when it comes to what you drink you're clearly by no means as discriminating, just after getting rat-arsed at the cheapest price as often as you can. Sad.

I must say I am finding the incessant questioning of the veracity of Stan's stories to be tiring, dull, uncool and as close to online bullying as I've seen on here.

If you can't play nicely, stop playing please. It's spoiling the thread. And Stan is a real human being whether you appreciate his ways or not.

Great to see the art is appreciated..
Fair play on the honesty of your work, Stanley.
This is what I would love to see more of....

Sagres , Super Bock and Crystal have had a virtual monopoly for decades. They were promoted and protected under the dicatorship in the 1970s as part of the nationalist drive. The microbreweries are thriving but are mainly based in Porto and Lisbon ,small scale production means that bottles are around 3 euros which for many is expensive.Aldi occasionally have some at just under 2 euros. There is a micro brewery about five klms away from me and there is one in Tavira and one in Olhao.Thats about it in the South.

in the op we're told that we'd be kept informed of progress and so when progress and indeed living off the land are both more honoured in the breach than the observance it seems to me fair to question the accuracy of the information supplied. in addition, where this is tested against previous statements made it's in the context of this want of honesty - if an unflattering picture of se appears it's not to my mind the questioners' fault.
