Lambeth Council Watch - news and updates about the 'co-operative' council

Its about 6 hours ago now - but I flick over different channels particularly 231,232,233,235 and 236 (GB News) when I'm bored or the adverts come on.
I don't normally venture to 237 unless its Piers Morgan or possibly Julia Hartley Brewer.
I do take the Radio Times - but obviously this doesn't give the flavour of news channels minute by minute - but can be a useful pointer to interesting stuff on Sky Arts/Yesterday/PBS America.
But Sunday mornings are slow - unless you like those odd programmes where an assortment of multifaith pilgrims treck up Ben Nevis etc.

Do you fell I ought to abstain - or maybe go to confession?
Personally I feel it’s best to avoid toxic news channels, there’s only so much time in you’re life.

A Lambeth Labour councillor from Streatham Vale has won nomination somewhere out of of London
Apparently councillors should only stand in areas where they are councillors which is great news for the Tories in East Worthing & Shoreham as they’ll get to stand unopposed!!

But that's not true, is it?

Worthing has a Labour run Council.

Also on the shortlist was Councillor Christine Bayliss, Leader of the Labour Group on Bexhill Council

I stand corrected 😃

Don’t get the pearl clutching though for people standing to be MPs in places they’re not particularly connected to - it’s incredibly common, suspect it’s the majority of MPs. And calls to resign as a councillor are just weird.

Right.

So Rutland is going to spend every weekend between now and next October on the South coast. What of his Streatham residents that he was elected to represent? He's already skipping surgeries.

If he can't commit to Lambeth then he needs to make way for someone who can.

He should have the balls to stand down in Lambeth now, rather than wait for the safety blanket of knowing that he has an MP's salary to rely upon.

Well I flicked over to the Laura Kuensberg show on BBC One just now. It was unbridled Richard Tice.
If you ask me the BBC programmes made by the companies that make the Daily Politics, Question Time and Kuensberg have a corrupted format. They nearly always have a representative of a Fascist party, the Institute of Economic Affairs or the Daily Telegraph commenting on the news.
Lord Reith didn't set up safety mechanisms in the BBC for the benefit of fascists and Nazis.
So far Newsnight on BBC Two seems unaffected - though there are perennial rumours it will be scrapped.
You want toxic - stay on BBC One or daytime BBC Two.

Completely agree - why I avoid all those programmes you list.

I appreciate it may be normal for this to happen and that many* young Lambeth councillors have gone off to high office but I still find it weird all the same living in what seems to be a nursery for MPs.

*Not just from Labour but Tories in the past too. See Major, Bercow, Elphicke.

Dominick Grieve was a most diligent Tory PPC for Dulwich & West Norwood - did a lot of stuff with the Community/Police Consultative Group for Lambeth.

The latest from your local slum landlord:

"An elderly couple are living in a council property in Brixton that is "completely unsafe, unhealthy and unacceptable", according to their daughter ..."

Lambeth Council apologises for mould in Brixton flat

After 10 months waiting for something to be done by the people headed by Fiona Connolly, Lambeth Council's "Corporate Director of Housing and Adult Social Care", this is the best that two elderly cancer-suffering local pensioners have been offered:

"We are extremely disappointed that, on this occasion, we fell below our standards," "(We have) now scheduled a number of works to Mr and Mrs Keane's flat that would be carried out as soon as possible".

Buzzed: Less than half of Lambeth residents think that they live on a clean street

"The report ahead of the meeting claims that litter picks on all residential streets takes place twice a week"
Funny thing is my bit of Coldharbour Lane is pretty clean, and seems to get swept multiple times as day - though you will observe that the permanent presence of wheelie bins does obstruct the operatives from sweeping round the bins.
I'm rather unsure what will happen when the new low intensity bin emptying comes in next Easter-tide.
Maybe people will just put all their rubbish in the green bins.
Now I have a Temu account I could order a consignment of giant edible rats from China - then we could have total recycling - from street detritus to diner plate.

Our quiet residential street and similar neighbours have not had any obvious major clearing of pavements in recent times, as there are deep and mulching leaf piles everywhere. We have to rake them ourselves then arrange disposal of the leaves.

The bits of the roads that abut main roads do get cleared regularly
