Kanye West and Kim Kardashian hire private firefighters while surrounding neighbourhoods burn

Got ducked in Cyprus a couple of times to fight fires.
First time was boring and tedious trying to put out a Bush fire.
2nd time was a little more er "intresting" ended up facing a cliff jump before the helicopter with the bucket turned up:eek:
3rd time hid when they went looking for volunteers:p

"Got ducked" - is that a typo or squaddiespeak?

autocorrect strikes again .
If the wind changes fighting a wildfire goes from this is boring and pointless bone job.
to OMG we are going to die!:(
not really helping when you realize your wearing a polyester rich jungle camo and the Cypriots are in full fire brigade kit:mad:

i thought most firefighters in USA were volunteers, anyway?

I don't think they have a fire service in the way most countries do.

It depends on where you live. In my rural area they are volunteers. In the city they are paid professionals. In California, with these fires they are using prison labor, they get paid a whole $1 an hour. Then, when they get out of prison, they have the training to be firefighters, but can't pass the background check to get the job.

California is paying inmates $1 an hour to fight wildfires

So the irony here is not just that the rich are getting special services, but that the poor are being drafted to fight fires for very little, not even training they could use to get a job when they get out.

tbf California is trying to change the rules.
firefighters have to be registered emts and paramedics can't be ex cons but California's volunteer inmate firefighters denied jobs after release

California is trying to fix the problem
Fortunately, new legislation would curb some of California’s licensing barriers against ex-offenders. As part of a public safety omnibus signed earlier this year, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL-FIRE) can certify former prison firefighters as “emergency medical responders,” a certification CAL-FIRE accepts in lieu of an EMT license for some state firefighter jobs. A separate bill would require agencies to report the number of applicants with a criminal conviction who have been denied or granted an EMT license, which would provide valuable data for further reforms.

the yanks have some weird licensing restrictions on a lot of trades.
which starts out sane nobody wants an unqualified sparky or gas engineer but a florist cant kill you.
Of course, the whole thing manages to have a racist tinge .
Natural African hair weavers need the full colorist license even though the exam doesn't cover African American hair or what they do but without it they can be jailed for illegal hairdressing:eek:

Do the private firefighters connect to a public water supply. Do they take from public water source such as lakes or rivers when piped water isn't available? A small point but if they do, what gives them that right to the water over the public service?

Mind you I expect they take round their own massive tanks of unicorn piss or whatever this season's extinguishing liquid is.

A clip was shown of some poor sods driving down a road with fire either side and above them and somebody was on the back seat praying  at that point nothing else you could do they survived Mrs has a friend in California their town hasn't been hit but the sky is red and they have a refugee camp in the Walmart carpark:eek: proper disaster movie stuff.
