Just how toe-curlingly awful will the 'festival of Brexit' be?

The content of the festival wasn't exactly aimed at the typical gammon tbf. This passage from the article the newspapers are all basing their stories on (which is worth reading in full, it's pretty interesting/funny) is typical of much of the activities on offer.

I was interested in the figures for StoryTrails, which dealt in local history using VR and augmented-reality storytelling, though despite having taking place in 12 venues over July and August (it ends in September), no information was available.

The project seemed laudable – renowned historian David Olusoga was the creative lead – but risky. The VR element was to be stationed in libraries across the UK, and so relied on local librarians overseeing cutting-edge VR headsets that had never been used, as StoryTrails creator James Bennett told me, for “public audience-facing experiences”.

To get a sense of how easy it was to use, I visited StoryTrails’ headquarters, at Royal Holloway’s cavernous StoryFutures institute, to try it for myself.

Notably, the two VR experiences they suggested I try were Kindred, a story about a trans parent adopting a gender-questioning toddler, and Promenade, which told the tale of an artist’s Cyprian parents: how they had come to Britain for a better life, and which explored themes of migration and assimilation.

They've shoved an oil rig in the Tropicana at Weston Super Mare. From the photos I've seen it pisses all over Banksy. It was just delayed because of the rules they make up for things.

I haven't seen mention of a single thing from this festival. Which is interesting, as a lot of my targeted advertising online is for cultural events, but clearly I was too much of a lefty for this or something.
Same. Seeing this thread is the first I've heard of it since the concept was floated years ago.

Yeah if they wanted bums on seats they probably should've told someone about some of these events.

The See Monster drone show at Weston Super Mare last weekend looks pretty impressive in a '1970s computer graphics in the sky' kind of way

(apparently it's on again tonight if anyone's in that direction. Not that you can find any information about it on the Unboxed website)

It was very good but only 7 minutes long, people who’d travelled for an hour to get there felt a bit cheated

And 1 of those minutes was used up by a plug for Unboxed!

Very divisive in Weston, people either love See Monster or hate it, it’s Brexit all over again 🤣

And it’s late being finished and with the delays in setting it up, is costing the taxpayer 4.8 million

So a lot local people are angry at getting landed with an ugly white elephant that cost such a lot

And the local issue is that it’s in the Tropicana.

That’s the disused Art Deco swimming pool (where Banksy did Dismaland)

The pool was closed due to funding and is much missed and many local people want it restored. That could have been done for a very small fraction of that 4.8 million and would have been an asset to the town for years. Instead they get the See Monster plopped in the middle!

every large thing that happens in any town will split opinion like this IME. If they'd spent the money on the lido half the town would be moaning about why did they throw a load of money away on a pool that only gets used two month a year etc etc

Wind on the English coast? An unprecedented event.
And you’d think an oil rig would be able to withstand a bit breezy at an an English seaside 🤣 But I suppose it’s more about people getting blown off the top. Whatya way to going

But if it had opened in August when it was supposed to, instead of now because of the constant delays?

Now about that enquiry into spending £120 million on Unboxed with very few visitors….

Countryfile had the whole show about a light display at the 4 highest points in our magnificent country - the light show was part of unboxed, which I believe is the Festival of Brexit, rebranded.

It was pretty good tbf - but of course , on the social medias, a load of brexit-y types branded the whole thing 'woke' because apparently Countryfile is 'woke'

Which confusingly, means brexit is woke.

:hmm:

I.m waiting for the festival of Lexit.

A 50 ft tall French steam pun walking puppet of Tony Benn will tour the West Midlands.
A VR tour of journey of GB by nationalised community owned railways
2000 life sized models of Jezza will be placed atop every local government building.

And its all happening next week!

I not going to keep posting midjourney pictures but A380's description was oddly specific. I thought it was worth it.

Apparently around 30% of people who "participated in" the Brexit festival according to official figures did so by watching that episode of Countryfile.
