July 2005 London bomb blasts: UPDATES AND NEWS ONLY - NO DISCUSSION

CNN website front page saying their sources are reporting 40 [forty] dead. http://www.cnn.com/

this compounds my fear that we are witnessing an orchestrated slow-drip of news/ reporting of casualties deaths etc, in order to manage public hysteria and fear (something that will have been planned in event of an attack such as this, no doubt with the public mood of places like oldham/ bradford in mind).

:( :( :(

kens' been crying hasn't he, he said what needed to be said

Ah, nice one, I was wondering about that as I might need to start driving (if the tube is out of action for a while)...

oh... it's only suspended for the day... Well, it's not like anyone will be driving through is it?!

The only ones likely to be driving out are those that drove in........ ie no more than usual, it seems to me...

Metro reporting Newcastle City Centre being patrolled by armed police officers. Monument Mall was evacuated after a train alarm was hit on its own Metro underground station.

Apparantly theres people going around Newcastle begging and when recieving money saying 'thankyou, stay away from the metrocentre'

Sorry for going off topic. Lots of police around here, guess its just precautionary

This is the first actual confirmation of a controlled explosion in SW7 that I've seen.

There are a lot of houses like that in the area, but it looks like one of those very near the tube station. One or two of them are embassies or consulates.

Looks like it could be part of the IC buildings near princes gardens. The housing office perhaps.

Good to see the RLC doing thier job though.

Yes, I saw a later post saying it was Exhibition Road. Very close to us.

RLC???

I think the discrepancy is because the BBC only reports officially confirmed figures, whereas other news agencies go by "reliable" but unofficial ones.

& at the same time, the beeb ticker is reporting Al Qaida have just killed the Egyptian envoy.

A simple and serious message to the G8 it looks like :(

What do mean by 'fear'? Fear of more casualties or fear of managed media?

It is possible that people in critical conditions are dying and new bodies beign found, hence the updating...after all this is a 'live' event.

Heard from one of my friends at Imperial College the suspect bag was outside the School of Mines on the corner of Exhibition Road and Prince Consort Road. Still not sure what it was tho

If they want to make economic impact, i advise all Mancs to stay away from Trafford Centre, as it is 2nd most likely target after town.

That's about half way up between where Ex Road joins Cromwell Road, and where it joins Kensington Gore at the top. Not far from main Imperial College campus.

lol - I was wondering when someone was going to bring that one up! makes a change from it being an arab warning you to stay away from the tube.

I'm aware its an Urban myth but its not helping that it was dismissed by the Police several months ago yet the major local radio station broadcasts it

(btw, how do people feel about the likelihood of further attacks outside London?)

Ken may have saved many lives today - his increase on congestion charging to £8 means many people now leave their cars at home - so the emergency services could access the affected zones far quicker.

Sure, there's the obvious increase in people travelling by public transport - but in the 20 years or so I've been commuting the tubes are always rammed in rush hour, same as the buses.

South ken is a bit of target what with embassies and stuff. I went to school there and when 9/11 happened we were evacuated because our school was seen as a unlikely but possible target.

Fuck, know it well, hope it was just a dozy student and not an attempt to blow IC up

We're against them. Let's not speculate, it's too upsetting. We'll know 99% of it by tommorrow.
