July 2005 London bomb blasts: UPDATES AND NEWS ONLY - NO DISCUSSION

Is anyone having problems with phonelines?

mobile coverage is sketchy, i've got texts from people asking if i'm ok, managed to ring my mum, sister, etc to tell them i was ok, and mrs21 got hold of me on my mobile but that was an hour ago...

I feel so fucking useless, sitting here 8 miles away doing nothing. I know everyone's saying stay at home but is there any way any of us can actually help? Take blankets down, whatever? Probably just being stupid but I'm a Londoner and I want to do something.

Two of our closest friends in London are a tube driver and a police officer - not the greatest of jobs to have today... :( :( :(

it certainly appears as though it was organised ...

I'm just hoping there as few casualties as possible.

Unlikely, relying on getting signal is a very careless way to set off a bomb, however the timer function is tried and tested. Still, you might want to give a statement at some point, just in case.

Yes I think I'll do that. I feel awful not saying anything at the time

innit... at terrorist scum, especially after the olympics yesterday!! I'm at school in the library and they have the radio on...I've got tears in my eyes as I'm writing this, it just seems to get worse and worse.

The Olympic announcement could well have been a trigger for this, froggie. :(

What better way to destabilise everything than to say "you're not safe, MI5 can't do their job properly, we can get you anytime we weant to"? :( :(

I'm sure I'll be fine if I cycle. (always said it was the best way to get around London!)

I cycled right through east London this morning almost entirely oblivious to the shit that was happening - until I reached Aldgate and noticed the abnormally large numbers of pedestrians on the street.

Found out what was happening when I tuned my radio to listen to John Gaunt.

This fucks me right off. I have family in that shit hole known as London. I hate stupid, moronic, brainless protesters, terrorists and animal rights activists. When that gerbil in their large mutant head turns that wheel what do they think 'I know Ill throw a pie in a politicians face and that will change their thinking...no wait even better ill kill a bunch of innocent people and then they will change everything, yay'. Stupid fuckers all it does is tighten the politicians resolve in their own mutated beliefs and makes the politicians tighten up on security, freedom of speech and your own civil rights. Terrorists, protesters and activists go and fuck yourselves. You make me feel ashamed to call myself British. if you want to do some good, go to Africa and help with the UN aid.

I know what you mean, I have the same feeling myself, even though I'm in camden, relatively central
rationaly I think the best thing is to keep out of the way but it's horrible having to tolerate feelings of helplessness :(

At the time we didn't really think it was much, we just thought it was a bit odd but we weren't taking any chances, nothing happened to the train anyway...nobody else in the carriage noticed, everyone just stayed on that train...oh g-d :( :( :( i feel awful :(

Froggy, you have nothing to feel guilty about.

[lighthearted]

Boards are busy in't they? Loads of people online!

[/lighthearted]

My thoughts are with everyone caught up with this right now xxx

Radio 4 just asked a 'excurity consultant'
'do you think this the hallmark of a terrorist attack?'

!!! What on earth do they think it might be??

They claim not to be confirming it so people won't panic! What do they think people are thinking?? that it was a power surge? We have been expecting an attack for long enough after all.

Are people panicking? I don't have a tv but the radio reports suggest that people are coping.

I can only say what has already been said, try and recollect as many details as you can and make a statement ASAP it may be nothing but it may just be connected.

outside my office window, High Holborn is going M.E.N.T.A.L

My wife's nearly got to Highbury and Islington. I can't understand this advice I keep hearing that people should stay where they are? Surely she's better off having got out of Central London.

Oh fuck off.

Wtf is the connection between protesters, AR activists and whatever terrorist scum carried this out?

The most helpful thing would be to stay home and let the emergency services do their thing.

can't see it myself - this is a massive operation - what if the vote went the other way yesterday and Paris got the Olympics - they nearly did.

Intresting Edware Rd was selected, opposite Paddington Green nick, where terrorist suspects are interogated. Also Liverpool st, which serves Londons financial district.

Up until the bus explosions, it was still being claimed it was a 'power surge', a cover story obviously invented not to cause panic. Radio 2 were still claiming this at 11am.

Controlled exposions gives the impression it wasnt suicide bombers.

Already had you marked down as a conspiracy loon. Wasn't wrong, was I?

Very unlikely that this could have been implemented in less than 24 hours. Even the IRA would have been hard pushed to do that!

Much more likely that it was planned to coincide with the first day of the G8 meeting.

after a terrible night of nightmares and waking up late feeling shitty i have been ignoring the phone until one of the dossers here banged on me door.
