Joe Biden's time is up

concerning instead is the authorization to target islamist leaders for assassination.

Good riddance. But I do wonder if it is infact true that there were no civilian casualties or deaths.

It would seem so. They used a missile (the ninja) that doesn't actually seem to explode. It has extendable blades on its tip which 'shred' the victim and the victim only. Quite amazing.

some evidence that the horrendous inflation in US may be easing below.

Fuel prices are definitely coming down (below $4.00 per gallon in my area) ; however food prices (and shortages ) are, if anything, getting worse, imo..

Yes, I'm seeing that too. Gasoline has come down a lot. Fresh foods seem to be rising fastest where I'm at. I eat a lot of salads and I think most salad ingredients are up 20%. Fruit, even in season, is so expensive that I've stopped buying it. I'm hoping that some of the rise in food prices is due to the rise of fuel costs and it will come back down too.

ASDA superstore last night had almost no salad ingredients and no pre-made ones at all.

Not sure what’s happened with the salad.

I haven't been able to get hold of lettuce in ages. No Iceberg, no Romaine, fuck-all. I can still find it inside the pre-made salads sold by the local Italian sandwich shop, but I've been wanting to make my own Cesar salad and I've been totally shit outta luck in terms of finding leafy greens for it.

Absolutely zero lettuce, cucumber or anything similar in Morrison's today. And it was a big Morrison's. Bought tomatoes instead.

Was just looking it up, mixture of crappy harvests, increased fuel and fertiliser costs making the usual back-up plans unprofitable, and also a lack of CO2 used to force quick growth when in a pinch.

Just need to sort out the war, climate change and economic problems and all should be dandy.

I'm set for cucumbers for a while. The last time I was back home, I made the mistake of leaving my car unlocked....

In the country, the main reason you lock your car is to make sure none of your neighbors "gift" you with some of their surplus garden produce.

do they let you know it was them or are you left to guess? that could be uncomfortable if a 'thank you' is expected but you don't know whom to give it to.

They're usually happy that it won't go to waste or (more likely), they won't have to can it. It can result in produce wars, where one neighbor leaves cucumbers. That neighbor retaliates with some apples. It can go back and forth for years. (I think the cucumbers might have been payback for mowing their frontage, which looked a bit shaggy.)

I was given some tomatoes today - well received though since I'd put my other ones in a curry

I will exchange them for grapes - I have a good 20 or 30 bunches unfortunately all the grapes are pea sized.

There's been no shortage of food in New Zealand at all in our supermarkets, but price gouging is common as we only have two chains and has got worse. Loads of us grow fruit and veg through. I've got two types of lemon + mandarins and I trade them with the neighbours who have peaches and chili peppers.
