Is Elon Musk the greatest visionary or the greatest snake oil salesman of our age?

ha ha ha - he just totally shat on Farage without even thinking - capricous bell end that he is. Presumably listening to some far right fruit cake tommy botherers rather than what most sense poltically. Musk putting his money behind farage could have been really bad news - and made the prospect of ReFuk in govenment a serouls possibility. Now he will have turned half the british gammonshere against him.
I’ve seen it so often. Musk literally has the ear of any of the worst of the internet, retweeting them, engaging with them etc. he’s one of the most unsophisticated thinkers I’ve ever seen, all of which is boggling considering his wealth. It’s almost like he was just a gambler from immense privilege who got lucky with a few bets, isn’t it.

The criminal bit wouldn't be aan issue once he's out of prison (it's only if they are currently in prison for 12months or more, not when they've been released). Not sure about the financial though.
Think there used to be a ban on bankrupt people becoming mp's but i think that might have been abolished a few years back if my memory is correct.

Will be interesting to see who ends up accepting money from the man who supports the actual German neonazis who worship Hitler. No doubt will be a British patriot who supports the heroic efforts of Her Majesty's services during WWII fighting against ...

ah :(

It's some amazing cognitive dissonance, innit? Calling yourself patriots while also supporting a man who was the enemy during WW2 and who your grandfathers would have fought, and who was responsible for the genocide of 6 million of the Jews you claim to care about. Laying a wreath at the Cenotaph to commemorate people who died while fighting against the tyrant in question even though you think he was a great bunch of lads.

Nigel? if you believe report from his school day he uses to march around like a little nazi making antisemtic remarks .. he just does not want Tommy outshining him

tbf atm we have a bit of a problem with grown men dick riding billionaires and millionaires

it an odd thing to observe but you get people defending them regardless of their actions see musk, trump , rogan amongst other

something went very wrong in the last decade
Americans have always idolised the wealthy, hence why we have trump in a position of power in the first place. The internet spreading the cultural imperialism of the USA means it’s a view increasingly held over here too. (And always has been to some extent - see the admiration of the Beckhams and similar with their stupid big cars, royal family worship etc.)

. The downside is that I think my husband might be right that if Farage is ousted from Reform, he'll be the next Tory leader once they've got him in with a by-election.
Farage’s whole shtick is that he is an outsider, an anti-politician (despite a couple of decades in politics). Being part of an establishment party ends that. I don’t think the idea of him as a leader is based in reality.

They don’t like him, and he’s said he wants to destroy them.

The allure of money/success/luxury is not a uniquely American thing. I'd also argue that not all Americans fall into your generalisation. There have been many over the ages who wished to escape from poverty, servitude, peonage, exploitation etc. There is also a defiant history of activism in the US, workers solidarity and rejection of the capitalist system.

The ironic thing is that is goes to show, yet again, what a clueless gobshite Musk is. Unfortunately for the UK, Farage has been the most wildly successful politician the UK has seen for decades in terms of gaining attention and support from powerful forces. I doubt this will oust Farage, though if he goes I suspect he'd be replaced by someone ideologically even worse, but without whatever-the-fuck-it-is that draws people to Reform. The downside is that I think my husband might be right that if Farage is ousted from Reform, he'll be the next Tory leader once they've got him in with a by-election.

Indeed.

I don't like Farage, but he obviously has some savvy political instincts and a big part of his success is in distancing the far right from the image of violent football hooligan street thugs represented by the EDL and Tommy Robinson.

Musk is a gobshite with zero understanding of UK politics, as he has proved repeatedly.

The American far right in general know shit all about UK politics. They think we're a Muslim country with people openly praying in the streets and women being forced to wear burqas in London.

Farage is loathsome but he's a much smarter operator than Musk. He might be able to use this to his advantage by playing up 'I stood up to the richest man in the world trying to interfere with British politics because I'm so patriotic and have so much integrity' (and also because it was just a tweet and Reform is a business not a party so he can't be booted out anyway)

I'd be interested to know what the response has been in twitterworld, I don't get the impression that there's been a flood of support for Musk's views, partly because I'd presume the Russian/Chinese bot farms have gone 'Wait, what?' as they want to fuck up British politics via Reform, they don't want Reform disrupted by Musk's shenanigans. Because Farage in charge is their best bet of getting Reform to muddy the waters and move everything rightwards.

It all goes to show again that Musk has no fucking clue what he's doing.

If he was a smart man he would stayed out of the limelight and worked evil magic from behind a curtain just like all the other billionares. There may be nuts and fanboys that love Musk but he has tarnished all of the products he touches for the smarter person. He is popular with politicians only because he is rich.
Musk is such a megalomaniac that he can't help but promote himself at every possible opportunity.
