Is Elon Musk the greatest visionary or the greatest snake oil salesman of our age?

I'm amazed at the lengths people will go to continue using Xhitter instead of realising it's a bowl of turds and dumping it. Social media addiction is real.
I still use it because it's still an excellent news source. I know it's an absolute cesspit as well, particularly since Elmo took over but mostly that can be avoided.

It is/was a nice way of keeping in touch with friends. Not so handy these days as many have gone elsewhere in multiple directions - mastodon, bluesky, threads, instagram etc. It’s difficult to get everyone to agree to use just one platform and being across all of them would be a full time job.
Loads of friends have deserted Facebook too, for good reason, but i’d gotten used to communicating with them that way. I wish we could go back to bulletin boards. My social life was a lot busier then. (This site is a rare exception, unfortunately)

Not to the same extent I think, and there's so much more misinformation to sift through, so many more cranks and fake posts. And that's from its initial baseline of 'handle with care'.

Musk is not a tech visionary with a side interest in politics these days, nor is he just another bored billionaire with a nativist streak; the political activism and the technological ambitions are inseparable. He believes his work is part of a civilizational struggle in which woke progressives pose an existential threat to humanity. And he spends most of his days inside a feedback loop that’s radicalizing him even more.

It was related to share price, and that's taken a dive lately.

It’s so clear that he is forever online, and deep in the dopamine matrix of horseshit. “Join the conversation!” He really is a poster boy for over internet use, same as Jordan Peterson who tweets nonstop and is on about his sixth mental breakdown largely because of it I suspect. There’s so much to write about this, big political and philosophical issues. Poster boys for the fusion of tech (and capitalism) and the psyche itself which is irreversible. Twitter, insta, tinder, YouTube, etc is us now in many respects. It’s more real than IRL lol.

From the article, he posted just under 400 times in five days in a sample week. So 80 odd times a day. And that will have the additive trail that posting gives, wanting to see it retweeted, liked commented on, and that’s just the posting. That’s for 80 posts a day. Not how I want to spend every waking hour but each to their own, he might be finding value in it. Not sure how, but each to their own. I don’t think I could date someone that online however, they would be in a state of constant distraction.

That article is a great insight into him at the moment. I didn’t think it was as bad as that but he’s effectively a full time right wing Reply Guy lol

Hm maybe I should try and convince him all the senior politicians in Suffolk are Muslim - might put him and his followers off from moving here ...

I have to use it to promote my journalism/gigs and it's still a pretty effective tool, although I don't read anything else on that vile platform or interact with anyone.

Understand that, but at same time, it's sad to see it clogging up here when you don't click on it as a matter of principle.

Realise am in the minority and no having a go at yourself or though who need to use it.

I'm counting down the days until it goes belly up.
I was going to say it's hard to believe Musk was stupid enough to buy it, but then I remembered the Cybertruck.
Even Homer Simpson's car make more sense than the Cybertruck and I'm not really joking. The CT is unfit for what it is designed to be and unfit to be on the road because it's a danger to other people on the road be is other car, cyclists or pedestrians. Plus it the only car that need washing regularly to stop it rusting, but is hand-wash only.

Nazi cunts like Fuentes love religion. Not because they have any sincere religious faith or calling to the divine, but because it's an excellent tool for training people into believing absurdities and committing atrocities, especially from an early age. Just look at the absolute state of many US churches and how their stances go against the actual teachings of the Nazarene as written.

If Jesus came back, its fucks like Fuentes that would be the first up to crucify him.

I’m no fan of the provos but if they ever wanted to get the gang back together for one last show then now might be a good time.

(It’s real. I had to wade through the sewer of Cheongs tweets to confirm. I feel icky now.).

christ he's repulsive. he's got to be in the top 50 of the world's biggest bellends right now.

it's literally 4chan isn't it.

i have seen it a thousand times - "enlightened centrist" (i.e. a status quo fundementalist who just asks (always right wing) questions. Gets bee in bonnet/hurt ego about aspects of the left so pulls himself as far right as possible without total right off to get some kind of pleasure about triggering and avenging the left. it's a game, a lesson in insincerity rather than integrity. it has nothign much to do with any material change, but just "winning". this is is also a massively popular thing for 14 year old boys to do in youtube comments. it's as old as the hills. martin amis and chris hitchens two recent examples. jordan peterson another. none of which i truly believe are far right in their outlook, but oh boy do they love a culture war win. pathetic. the real world just seems to drift further away.
