Is Elon Musk the greatest visionary or the greatest snake oil salesman of our age?

While he clearly enjoys trolling, I think at least part of it is that he's in many ways a quite foolish man who spends a lot of time online and believes a lot of the stupid shit he reads - and is too arrogant to doubt his ability to tell fact from crap
The abscence of "i wonder what affect this will have on the rest of teh world" thought before he posts is what interests me.

i don't know what it is, some of all of the above probably.

Thought I was immune(ish) to being upset by this stuff but 'He's Jewish' is currently trending on twitter, and it's just wall to wall proper nazi-flavoured hate accounts, using that hashtag. Old days, pre-musk, the staff at twitter would intervene & manually stop things like that showing up as a 'trending' topic, to avoid this sort of thing happening, but no longer.
monitised as well. to musk.

This is a man who casually suggests ketamine use for depression for his 100 followers, sorry 100 million followers or waht the ever the fuck it is

I reckon a significant proportion of those "followers" are either paid to do so (whether by Musk himself or his various bumlickers), or outright bots.

What do you think it is then? One of my thoughts l was having before going to sleep last night, is why the fuck Musk is pushing anti-vax bullshit on his platform. The only thing I could think of is that the pathetically petulant manchild is still smarting over the Covid shutdowns, and is embracing that nuttery as a means of lashing out. Otherwise I got nothing.

I think it's because he himself is a libertarian and he dearly wants to impress / attract other libertarians. There's nothing those libs hate more than state intervention so: vaccine mandates, nope - lockdowns, nope. I suspect it's of personal interest to him, plus he has a vested interest too now that libertarians and musky fanbois constitute the vast majority of really engaged twitter users (or X users whatever). Libertarians paint all state 'interference' as some kind of conspiracy (otherwise why do so many sheeple just go along with it?)

I keep seeing stuff being all about "bros" and "fanboys". In 2023. They might not tend to dominate that world, but let's stop pretending that millions of right-libertarians and bigots aren't female.

Elon Musk's ex-wife Talulah Riley texted the billionaire about his Twitter acquisition weeks before he announced his plans to buy the company, according to a report from Bloomberg.

In the texts, "TJ" called social media the "scourge of modern life" and dubbed Twitter "worst of all."

It was not a "bro" or a "boy" who texted to Musk (bold mine):

Can you buy Twitter and then delete it, please!? xx ... America is going INSANE.

It's very easy to exploit and is being used by radicals for social engineering on a massive scale. And this shit is infecting the world... Please do do something to fight woke-ism. I will do anything to help!

So, tonite we were all having a laugh and beers and out of about ten people only two knew who Musk is. And one of them thought he was a "good person" but couldn't say exactly why.

Which is the way it is, round my way at any rate.

They were more interested in chatting about computer games and general gossip. Musk is just an interesting guy to them and that's as far as it goes.

Is that so?

Hard to keep track of his omnipresent nationality!

Yep, he got Canadian citizenship through his mother and lived there for a few years after leaving South Africa - his grandfather left Canada after being prosecuted for his role in the weird Technocracy movement, I don't think the apple fell too far from that particular tree

Founder Howard Scott’s design for what he called the “Technate of America” did away with borders and merged the United States, Canada, Mexico, and Central America into a single nation under a regime of engineers and technicians.

As originally conceived, there would be no democracy in the Technate — no elections, no parliaments — because, the Technocrats claimed, even in democracies, questions of fundamental importance are never submitted to popular vote. Instead, there would be a single disciplined organization under one jurisdiction that would be responsible for the smooth functioning of society.

Adding to Technocracy’s authoritarian approach, Scott had his followers wear grey suits and encouraged them to paint their cars Technocracy grey. He also devised an open-handed salute and adopted a symbol — the yinyang, the ancient Chinese symbol representing balance — that he called a monad. Young people who were recruited were known as Farads — so named in honour of the English father of electricity, Michael Faraday.

It's a very peculiar situation where one of the worlds most successful, richest, powerful men is a forerunner for 4chan alt right extremism in a very public, teenagery way. The politics are one thing, but the lack of grace and grotesque asthetics are another. I mean frog memes? Are you okay, bro?

Maybe redcat does have a point in regards autism and musk. I still think though it's his feed, who he likes, who he doesn't like, though that drives him. Hes another annoying "enlightened centrist" though who is very right wing but hasn't got the honesty to admit it, even to themselves perhaps. He's got a bee in his bonnet about "the left", has so much adoration from the likes of Rogan and all the other bros, that it just propels him this way. I think there's a subgroup of these types who although are not heart and soul right wingers in the usual sense have such contempt for the left that they just become chronic edgelords, on a constant wind up, and in this case enough to blow 44 billion. That's my down the pub analysis of it based on nothing much at all.

Fascinating case.

Everything so public. Everyone so willing to share their inner most thoughts. A mega rich person 100 years ago, perhaps a biographer would have to interview his gardener to get one tiny glimpse of the man's inner ideology. A quiet, rich man, going about his rich man ways. Lovers etc might understand him, but his public face is silent.

Musk:...

Maybe it's better he's like that though, at least by being so forever online it's rope he will just end up hanging himself with.

What is the connection between Crypto Currency and elements of the Far Right ?
To disrupt western woke commie states and seize control from imaginary things like the deep state, is one connection I'd think. It's such trash that it's barely worth even considering where they are coming from.

Wonder how he felt about the 1978 Some Mothers Do Ave Em Christmas special

From "Business Insider"

While Elon Musk is sometimes referred to as the founder of Tesla, his part in the carmaker's history is more complicated.

Martin Eberhard cofounded Tesla in 2003 with his longtime friend Marc Tarpenning. Musk led the company's $7.5 million Series A funding round and became chairman of the board in 2004.

But Eberhard and Musk butted heads, and Musk ousted Eberhard from his CEO role in 2007. Musk said that Eberhard was holding up production of Tesla's first car, the Roadster, and that Eberhard was responsible for other operational issues.

Musk, who took over as CEO in 2008, has called Eberhard the worst person he's ever worked with. Eberhard sued Musk in 2009, accusing him of libel and defamation. (The two men later settled the lawsuit.)

I spoke in December with Eberhard, who was once called "Mr. Tesla" and now describes himself as a "retired entrepreneur." The Tesla cofounder discussed everything from his startup's early days to the future of electric cars.

Tesla regrets
Eberhard said that there are a million things he would've done differently at Tesla knowing what he knows now but that they're mostly small regrets.

For example, he said Tesla spent too much time debating whether to sell its cars through dealerships or directly to customers. He also said that while he would have made technical changes to the Roadster, overall he's proud of what the team created.

"If you have hindsight, you can see all the mistakes you made," he said. "But I think in the large strokes, we got it right. And the proof is for the first time ever in decades we built a car company successfully.

"Would I take his money if I could do it over again?" he asked, referring to Musk's investment. "I didn't see a lot of other money on the table, you know."

Eberhard also said he would've worked to create a more positive culture at Tesla had he remained at the company. "I'm a believer of treating employees with respect, and I'm not into random firings and things like that," he said. "So maybe the culture inside the company would have been a little bit nicer."

Eberhard appeared to be alluding to reports suggesting that Musk can be a difficult person to work for, prone to acting out of anger and even rage-firing employees. Musk has denied such allegations and said in 2021 that he gave "clear and frank" feedback to employees.

Musk did not respond to several requests from Insider for comment on this story. Emails to Tesla's press line were not returned
