Iran

Something odd here.

Only a day or few ago the ship was run by a Singaporean company (with quotes from them about the attack), was out of China, heading to Iran.
Searches on the shipping site now say it's run by a Japanese company, still having China as its last port of call, but the destination is now listed as the UAE.

There are times when I wish I'd taken screenshots.

The new version of the owners are now saying there was no limpet or torpedo, but there was a missile of some sort.

You know Panama is a flag of convenience to get around strict shipping laws don't you?

Yes - but the owners have changed on the shipping sites since the bombing - as the destination port has changed from Iran to UAE.
Come to think of it, the story about how it was attacked has also changed.

Other sites have been altered since the attack so I've added a screenshot.
Question is, why were those sites altered to show a Japanese company instead of a Singaporean one?

The Kokuka Sangyo company owns the ship. Bernard Schulte manages it.

Yamamoto is president of the company that owns the ship (As long as you don't look at sites that say other people own it) - he makes for an interesting search - try it. He owns and runs a very long string of fake companies out of Panama, but has absolutely no history apart from these company directorships.
It's like he doesn't exist except on paper.

This fans the flames of war. It doesn't matter that it is false. It matters that the media consuming public has seen this. They have seen Iran attacks. They don't see the corrections. This will be built upon.

I don't know what you are trying to show with that link but Yutaka Katada is the president of Kokuka Sangyo.

I think most people are highly sceptical these days, anyone over the age of 30 probably remembers Colin Powell's UN presentation. I don't think this is going to sway public opinion at all

pretty sure the crew of the supertanker wouldn't be able to tell if it was a torpedo or a mine though as they aren't in a lifeboat it wasn't a torpedo.
most subs launched torpedos pack a ton of explosives are designed to break the back of a ship and supertankers a huge but not toughened

You're missing a lot of context and seeing whatever you want to see. The Seaborne Freight debacle taught us that most ships are owned by a specific company set up for that one ship, for liability reasons. Ships are flagged as Panamanian because it has lax regulations.

I agree. I would say that a lot of people are a lot more sceptical about a call to war. I believe this time around there will be a lot more resistance, at every step.

I believe this is a step, a small one. I think this is deliberate spread of a small amount of misinformation. This isn't the call for war, but it is a step, what the case will be built on. What matters is that the misinformation is there, adding confusion about who has done what.

I would imagine your average Fox News viewer might not be too sceptical about the evidence. Plus there’s plenty of nationalist idiots here too who will lap it all up.

I hope you're right. I made the mistake of watching our Sunday morning political talk shows and it seems pretty clear that they're trying to get us yet into another conflict. A parade of Republicans were trotted by. Each one used the phrase "the Islamic Republic of Iran." Each one paused breathlessly after the word "Islamic." I must have heard that exact phrase six times. Its the new Republican talking point/dogwhistle they're using to scare their base.

photos of apparently the IRG "removing" a mine that failed to detonate.

now middle eastern militaries tend to have an er "robust " to Health and Safety  but going anywhere near a weapon that's failed to go bang is a good way to end up dead let alone limpet mines aren't designed to be removed hence the name limpet mine:eek:

Poor quality video, disputed
Now top quality photos and video ... errrr

If the yanks had a chopper in what they consider a likely war zone, why didn't it attack, or at least call for help so the carrier could send up aircraft to sink the boat?
If it was unarmed, why?

Although I will keep an open mind on this one, I really have no special reason to rule out the Iranians as responsible. Its not beyond their modus operandi or the sort of response people would be braced for once the USA spoilt the nuclear deal.

This still looks like bollocks.
Poor photos, then great photos.
Trying to sink ships with mines above the waterline
US navy ships there while the attackers removed a mine from a ship in international waters, but did nothing.
Iran attacking ships with destinations listed as Iranian ports, then the destinations changed.

I suppose Iran could have some really thick crack troops that don't know water doesn't flow up into a hole, are happy to remove an armed explosive device, and don't point their fucking great big boat mounted cannon at people on deck when they're removing the glue that holds magnetic mines to the side of a ship (?????).

Seems legit.
