International Cricket

England's batting is heavily reliant on Nat Sciver-Brunt, but she hasn't really turned up.

Series isn't quite over, though. England can still tie it.

Nah, it's over. Even if they tie it, they've lost the Ashes.

They were terrible throughout. And the aussies were missing two of their key players.

The men are even worse than the women. That was dire. Does nobody in England know how to play spin? There's off spin. And there's leg spin. And sometimes, a googlie. Watch their hands. It wasn't turning massively either.

Meanwhile Jos Buttler has spoken out against a boycott of the Afghanistan game.

Again, very clear echoes of what was said by players who went to apartheid South Africa.

I’m led by those experts on situations like this, but as a player you don’t want political situations to affect sport.

I mean wtf does he think has happened to Afghan women's sport due to the political situation. 'as a player' maybe he might put himself in the shoes (under the burkha :() of female Afghan cricketers.

Very disappointing from Buttler.

Jos Buttler says England boycott of Afghanistan fixture ‘not the way to go’

England genuinely hard done by today. They needed 18 off 5 balls, which is a pretty tall order, but Heather Knight was in and swinging and had just hit the first ball of the final over for four. Plenty of games have been won from there, especially as Australia had missed their timing for the final over and were being penalised with only three fielders out. However, Australia's slow over-rate was the reason why they could not complete the game! So it actually won them the match.

There are no doubt health and safety and insurance issues nowadays, but back in the day, many a Gillette Cup match was finished in pouring rain (and sometimes in the dark - days before floodlights). Given that Australia had overrun, would not have been unreasonable to tell them to finish that over off in the rain.

Belated congratulations to West Indies' Jomel Warrican on his match figures of 10-101 in the first test against Pakistan ... even though he ended up on the losing side.

Comfortably beaten, though. Pakistan are clearly good on turning tracks at home. West Indies' problem isn't their bowling. Never has been really. Their problem is their inability to score runs. I don't know how that is solved.

England were literally running off earlier when it was just spitting a bit and they were ahead on Duckworth Lewis, had to be called back by the umpires and reminded who's decision it is to come off.

It was pissing it down when they came off at the end, no way they could have stayed out.

Yeah fair enough. Unsatisfactory way to lose, though.
