Immigration to the UK - do you have concerns?

Pages of discussion about what the petit bourgeois actually are, on a thread about immigration concerns; mostly avoiding the poster who posted about immigration concerns.

And lefties wonder why normal people think they're a bunch of wankers!

The petit stuff belongs on another thread. As does your obsessional far right take on left wing posters.

I don't know.why you started on me with your 'eh?"

What was it that made you start on me?

So, your "eh?"

Why are you challenging me and on what basis? Put up or shut up.
Your now edited post where you said "Great. Fuck.taking the time to reply then."

What was it supposed to mean, what was the context and who was it aimed at?

So the people complaining about the discussion around petite bourgeoisie have given us the last couple of pages.

Not exactly validation for saying the thread would be better without it.

Less people applying for visas to work in healthcare.

Changes in rules like not being allowed to bring family are probably a factor.

Before the general election earlier this year, Labour pledged to reduce net migration. It has not set a target but said it aimed to reduce the UK’s reliance on foreign labour through workforce and training, particularly in key sectors such as health and construction.

Seema Malhotra, the minister for immigration, accused the previous Tory government of an "utter failure to tackle skills shortages which has left many employers dependent on recruiting from overseas".

But she vowed to continue some measures brought in by the previous government, including reducing the number of dependants able to join relatives in the UK.

The backlog in dealing with asylum cases is due to last government concentrating on the failed Rwanda scheme.

Looks to me that apart from Rwanda their is continuity between this government and the last on immigration policy. With this government going to show its more efficient.

Fact that Labour pledged less net migration - that I didn't know. Seems to me not that sensible thing to pledge. Even from perspective of those who support some controls. Ties the government hands if they cant train up people quickly enough.

I like the bits where someone plays the thread like a team game, I don't really know very much about these issues but I like Poster X's posts best. As if anyone cares :D

I agree, but didnt Labour campaign that they'd invest in training and education so that industries arent as reliant on immigration in order to bring demand down and thus numbers down, rather than going on the offensive against immigration?

Do wonder how governments can make that sort of pledge. Does it actually work? Did Brexit work (in that particular context)?

ETA: obviously having just read the BBC piece, applications are down!

Funny how a term (petite bourgeoise) can really rile people up and obscure the basic point, which is just that people who are self-employed tend to have different economic interests than those who work for a wage, and that affects their outlook on things. It's not an insult, or implying that someone is rich / up themselves or whatever.

Exactly it is a dated term of phrase, but it is is just an analytical tool.
