Hot upcoming gigs

It were a bit good, innit? I was way back up on the balcony, would've been nice to be in the crowd but think I would've died of sweat. They've still got an amazing level of energy.
I didn't go to much into their heart of the dried, cos I didnt want to be that guy. But I was still close enough to be thoroughly caught up in everything. My gig of the year so far, I am still beaming about it. Just joyous and riotously good. Also kinda interesting that twenty years ago, when those songs first came out, how trans inclusivity was just considered the norm for feminist circles.

A couple I've just got tix for...

• Deerhoof at Lafayette - Aug 21. This is a new venue to me, in the Kings Cross development, though it seems it's been going since 2021. After that they're touring the country, finishing up at EOTR festy on the 31st.
• Protomartyr at ye olde Electric Ballroom on Oct 26. They're playing Brighton, Notts, Cardiff and Leeds in August, then returning to play Manc, Bristol, Brum and London in Oct.

Turns out they're playing Outbreak, which I seem to forget about every year:
Still don't think I'll bother going, and there's a lot of names I don't recognise, but some quality ones on there too.
My husband is taking our 14yo son to this  Son is a big fan of Death Grips.

To be fair, if we are going to go down that road, Le Tigre did play Michfest. But them doing so was definitely controversial at the time, and probably an example of them falling short of their own lyrics about post-binary gender chores and so on.

Ah, thanks for the headsup about Protomartyr!

pj Harvey tours again.

Irritatingly, I think this is the third tour neatly arranged for when I'm on a fortnights holiday :(

Been to Lafayette a couple of times. Really liked it, good sound and lights and you're only a few feet from the stage.

Ribbon Stage are touring this month:

Never heard them before, but on first listen they sound like exactly the sort of thing I like, total Shop Assistants/Dolly Mixture worship, I reckon I might well be listening to them a lot in future:

If you get a chance to see these in London, Brighton or Southampton for the last few days of the tour, would definitely recommend, these were mint.

Screams I got a ticket for Melvins on 30th June at the Exchange in Bristol! I was on the waiting list and forgot all about it- I can't fucking wait!!!! 😁

You're in for a treat - set was great last night, fast paced and punky to start, which was fun, but what you really want from Melvins is the sludge and the second half of the set delivered a massive dollop of oozing filth. Night Goat to finish was absolutely next level - and then Boris as the encore - fucking brilliant. What a band!

This new one day event called Rally from Bird On The Wire at Southwark Park on 5th August has a great lineup inc Loraine James, Kelly Lee Owens, Leon Vynehall, Squid, Space Afrika and lots more. Tix are still a very reasonable £45 at the moment Programme | RALLY

Off to see Tom Jones today at Leicestershire County Cricket Ground  I saw him once before back in the 90s in Tufnell Park. Tom and the band were dead good then. Fingers crossed it's still a decent show 30 years later. Mind you, it's raining on an off here. I best take my kagool.

Well, at 83 years old, Tom Jones has still got it. Great performance, great musicians, great tunes

I've never been to a stadium type gig before, and much prefer the more intimate club setting. So the number of twats with their arms permanently up holding their mobile phones and filming was really fucking annoying.

Also, I wanted to punch the guy who was wandering about in front of me chatting loudy on his phone because Tom was doing a quiet song he didn't know. Luckily Mrs Forward dragged me off to somewhere where the crowd was a bit more respectful of Tom and his music. I'm glad she did, as he'd have probably battered me.

Full of Hell touring in September:

01.09 Limerick IRE - Dolan’s Warehouse
02.09 Dublin IRE - The Grand Social
04.09 Glasgow SCT - Audio
05.09 Newcastle GBR - Anarchy Brew Co
06.09 Manchester GBR - Rebellion
07.09 Leeds GBR - Boom
08.09 Bristol GBR - The Exchange
09.09 London GBR - The Garage

(In passing, I respect how whoever wrote that list recognises Scottish independence.)

I mean, what is the fucking point of forking out £60-odd quid for a ticket then spending all night on your phone apart from a couple of his well known classics?
I know Boomers get a bad press - but at the (fantastic) Richard Thompson gig I was at recently, it was refreshing that there was not a mobile phone in sight - nor any 'chit-chat' during songs..

Very much depends on who you are seeing too. Minimal phones when I saw Kurt Vile a few weeks ago.

I saw Thompson about 30 years ago, pre mobile phones. Trouble is there was chit chat, it came from me and my mate who were tripping and got soundly shushed.
