a mate of mine still hasn't got her citizen card. they've got a huge backlog. she asked them to courier it to her, but they refused on the gounds that then they'd have to do that for the "thousands of other people".

how shit is that?

I sent in my photo and sig on Saturday - the card arrived today very early.

So if she's lucky - she will get it early tomorrow morning.

Shit, thats what I was worried about - however, mine came through yesterday and I picked it up today from the PO as no one was in to sign.

What I was going to do if it didn't come through was to bring all my visa application stuff (explaining why I didn't have my passport) and the emails re: my citizenship card application, and show them all at the gate explaining why none of it had come through in time with alternative photo ID. I mean, if you've got all that, I can't really see them turning you away. Maybe if the worst comes to the worst she can try that.

Can she not use her passport?

I had a similar plan if mine didn't turn up. Involving several other photo IDs (or just any I could muster), credit card, the reference number for the ticket order AND the citizencard that should have come (it'll be in the email that was sent after the application is made).

In previous years, ID stuff has been talked up only for it to be much more relaxed come the day... (apparently)

Never trust a 5 day forecast - accuracy drops to about 40%.

ANd oilskins? In 20+ heat? Are you MAD?

Having been at a motorcycle rally a few years ago in brilliant sunshine a few miles away from Glastonbury festival watching it piss down on the festival, no I am not mad.

re: my mate, yeah all of that is pretty much what she's going to do. i only posted to kind of highlight that once again the infastructure is a bit fucked because the businesses assigned these jobs have clearly overestimated their ability to deliver on time.

dude, your answer merely suggests that you are somewhat mad. when it was put to you that wearing oilskins in hot weather (the wet not being the issue here) was possibly mad, you answered that you weren't mad because you'd stood in hot weather watching it rain.

Hooray! See you at 12ish tomorrow then.

Actually one more last question - does anyone have a windup/battery mobile charger? Not sure if mine's arrived in the post today...

Stig had some sort of gizmo last year IIRC.

Failing that, there are places you can charge your phone up on site.

Cool. :) I found a friendly stall holder in the acoustic field last year - it's just I want there to be no prospect of having to queue at Orange!

When it pisses down it tends to drop the temperature more than just a tad. Wearing oilskins is not that mad in those circumstances. It is very easy to get into deep shit survivalwise if you are caught outside in pouring rain without waterproofs. (Like unconscious in 1/4 of an hour and dead within 1 and 1/2 hours or less)

In Somerset ?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Shorts are a brilliant idea if it rains - dry fast and easy to get off.

All packed and off to Bristol now. Gooing to stay round a mates tonight, then just a short drive tomorrow morning.
Wohooo.... cya at the Cider Bus! :D :D :D

does anyone else think that glastonbury has taken ages to come round since buying out tickets nearly 3 months ago?

I found my fucking wall lights! :D :D They're a couple of those round, portable lights you can hang on walls which you simply push on and off and they're soooo useful, provide plenty of light all around the tent so you don't have to scramble around with a torch :)

The packing is slowly, slowly coming together, it's just a case of praying that all the things I thought were here are here rather than Canterbury.

Oh, and I got my ticket todaaaaay :D

IIRC alcohol expands the blood vessels, meaning more heat gets lost through the skin. Since you're drunk, you don't notice it as much, and so are in more danger of hypothermia, or whatever it is. I don't think 15 minutes is enough to go unconscious though. I'd believe an hour or two, but not 15 minutes..

just done all the essential shopping: 4 litres of vodka, half litre of southern comfort, 8 cans of carling. need to leave room for the pear cider afterall

oh and 6 of those wicked cereal bar things for a quick morning pick me up :)

looks like im gonna get to the festival 2 hours before all my friends arive. will there be action at the cider bus around 3pm tomorrow?

In pouring rain without waterproof clothing and only wearing a minimal amount or ordinary clothing unconsiousness in 1/4 of an hour is normal.
Some military personnel are subjected to such soakings as part of survival training, it is so dangerous that medical services are always close at hand.
