Gaza under attack yet again.

I think his reply to your defence of BDS was lacking - the whole conversation is really - but we can't have white rasta city traders, irish islamic socialists and various bullshitters ganging up to attack socialists. Not on this thread.
Quite, the only thing he's got 'wrong' in this thread has been not to agree that this assault amounts to a genocide, which hardly amounts to him being a zionist apologist. Bloody stupid

To be fair I can't decide whether to support it either - you will see posts from me until very recently arguing that it's a bad idea for some of the reasons Spacklefrog has been arguing - I don't know what the solution is though? I really don't. I'm starting to think that it may be the only (very limited) way to put pressure on the Israeli government

Personally I'm starting to come round to the idea but I also think it has its limitations and it does seem a bit odd to boycott Israel but not, for example, ourselves or the USA.

Effectiveness is the main thing, if we could boycott ourselves, on a mass scale, then maybe that would be a good idea. But we can't. There were worse places than Chile even after the coup, and there were even worse places than South Africa, but boycotts were valuable there.

Plus, the main workers organisations in Israel are calling for boycotts, which isn't the case for us or the US, or even anywhere else I can think of, offhand.

This for me is a huge, vital point.

My support for BDS is not 100% either, I'd be wary of someone who hadn't considered the problems. But I also see it as an imperfect way of applying pressure where I think it's likely to be most noticed - financially and on the western companies who financially support Israel.

Ok, I've avoided posting on this thread until today whilst I tried to figure out where the middle ground is. But there isn't any really is there? What Israel is doing is indefensible. I've had a couple of private conversations with a couple of you so as not to create a shitfest on the thread, but I'm off the fence.

However, what would be a reasonable response from Israel to having fucktons of, so far non lethal, rockets being lobbed at them?

Obviously there are potential long term solutions (withdraw to 67 lines ... blah blah ... etc) but what about the short term?

Let the rockets come on?

What can they do that doesn't involve killing hundreds of kids?

Forgive me if this has been discussed elsewhere but I'm not trawling 100 odd pages.

Stop besieging the Palestinians in Ghazza. Simple.

Life doesn't last too long without the basics.

And in Gaza it isn't just a lack of clean water and sewerage, it's a lack of medicines, a lack of adequate nutrition, and a lack of hope.
It's nice to see SpackleFrog saying that others lack clean water too, although perhaps SpackleFrog hasn't considered that others may not have the same political and military pressures on them as the Gazans.

The real difficulty for any boycott is that very many of the big Israeli firms are in the business of services, sub-systems etc which are subcontracted out to them by bigger firms or imbedded in other peoples software/systems
Teva pharma is one of the obvious big players in the UK but most of their sales seem to be to the NHS - if you're prescribed it how easy would it be swap out for another supplier?
A minefield that needs a fair bit more digging

How come she is only Jewish when she can use it to grandstand? Has she even mentioned the fact that she is Jewish before? Seems like another lie to make her part of the story.

She's Jewish insofar as she has a Jewish parent or grandparent (I forget which).
I did laugh a bit reading her article last week when she mentioned Kaddish. I bet she couldn't recite the mourning prayer, unless she looked it up! Why do I bet that? Because a majority of Jews can't, beyond the first few lines, and sometimes only in their own tongue, not Hebrew!

Ministry of health: 1437 murdered and 8300 injured in Israeli attacks on Gaza. Today alone 79 murdered! 10.35pm"

Relieved to see OccPal is still alive, after a worrying lull in tweeting.

What? I don't get it.

Nowhere in the UK, but plenty of slum communities in Latin America, Africa and Asia. That's basically the goal right? To reduce Gazans to that state?
That would only be an intermediate stage, the idea being to make life so bad than somehow they would then chose to go away
Cant see where to
