Far Right win 30% in Austrian Election

The resurgences of the far right in Europe and time zones become the important issue, politics of the privileged and paranoid

I've got a shit loads of thoughts running round in my head right now, which I can't crystalise til that result : very little of to do with timezones.

yes, i'm well aware it's not a massive issue, i thought it might be worth clarifying because people might like to know just when the result would emerge.

Germany was the first European country to institute daylight saving time, which it did during the first world war. During the second world war, Hitler imposed German time on the countries that Germany invaded. He even managed to get Franco to switch Spain's timezone to match Germany's, even though this wasn't appropriate for it's geographic location. They still haven't got round to changing it back: Spain: out of time

you're the only person saying they're an important issue, to me it's only significant insofar as it elucidates the time the results are released.

When the Freedom party last rose to prominence, entering government under its late leader, Jörg Haider, in 2000, it was still firmly rooted in Carinthia, in the deep rural south. Under the party’s current leader, Heinz-Christian Strache, and Hofer, who is one of Strache’s close allies, the FPÖ has expanded, managing to win voters both in Vienna’s working-class districts and more bourgeois areas such as the Wels town centre.

Fear of migrants and loathing of elites drive a small Austrian town to far right

So much for 'Red Vienna'

sad as Hofer party in Wels where they have a mayor has cut lots of community facilities, etc.

Was reading *somewhere that postal votes, which are expected to be strongly in favour of Van Der Bellen, won't be counted until tomorrow. Hoping that this nudges him over the line.

E2A: *in the Graun article linked by treelover above

Just wonder how well those boxes are guarded.... This is the edge of surreal nightmare territory.
