England v Germany

England will have to have a few things tipped in their favour to win against Germany:

a) German injuries from the previous game will give an advantage, but that's two players if England are lucky.
b) Rooney will have to be on form and have his shooting boots on.
c) Germany will have to make a few mistakes, at the right moments.

I don't think it's that hard to see why many find it all a little bit tiresome.

You know, in. Every. Single. Tournament.

Well to be fair to a lot of English fans, following their performances so far they have gotten a bit more realistic so it isn't all that bad....

Lol. Are you a nationalist, Lo Siento? You take it all very personally don't you?

not really. Politically-speaking I'm an internationalist and a socialist. I think you'd have to take life a bit too seriously to apply that to fairly innocent pastimes and renounce your national team or whatever. I'm from Ipswich I support Ipswich Town, I'm from England, I support England.

I just think invading every english thread is bit pathetic tbh, I mean go find something positive to enjoy about the tournament, and maybe come back for a quick giggle when we go out. When we go out, I'll mope for a day, then get behind the girlfriend's team (Argentina) :)

I am enjoying the tournament, however I'm also enjoying being the self-appointed voice of reason...

And then we will be on the same side, supporting the same team! :oops:

Why Mourinho, out of interest? He doesn't always make the best choices in the transfer market does he.

the most successful coach in world football. I'd say the choices he has made in the transfer market have been excellent, the one's that didn't work out were mostly forced on him (Sheva, Ballack).

But why can play the game with other coaches if you like. Don't think you'll find too many successful ones who would take any of the German midfield over Gerrard or Lampard.

Comparing individual players seems to be irrelevant in this World Cup.

Capello will hopefully be studying the Germans on DVD in detail as we type.

Well, looking at his signings at Chelsea - the best of which were signed by Ranieri - I'd say he's a bit suspect in the market tbh. He'd probably do better with a decent DoF.

Depends what they are looking for I suppose. Schweinsteiger may not have been at his best but is still a quality player. I'd actually probably agree that Germany are looking weak in midfield, mind. Better upfront though imo.

don't get me wrong, we're basically out of this tournament. I just don't think the Germans should be the ones to scare us, in particular.

How many of the england team have played abroad in say Italy or Spain then?

Do you think the like of upson, james, barry, defoe are world class?

The way Rooney is playing? Yeah. But again, I don't think many coaches would take any of their forwards over him (in general).

Given Klose's age, probably not, but I know who I'd rather have in my team for this tournament. And beyond Rooney, England are looking very poor for forwards at the moment.

Ballack didn't work out?

He worked out for the coaches that followed Mourinho.

All of them could do if they wanted to.

Do you think the like of upson, james, barry, defoe are world class?

Depends how you're measuring it. If you're excluding them, how many of these are world class? How many do or would get a game for a big big european club?

* 01 Neuer
* 03 Friedrich
* 16 Lahm Captain
* 17 Mertesacker
* 20 Boateng (Jansen, 72)
* 06 Khedira
* 07 Schweinsteiger (Kroos, 81)
* 08 Ozil
* 10 Podolski
* 13 Muller Yellow card (Trochowski, 68)
* 19 Cacau

Yep, no reason to go anywhere else, its not just about ability ffs. :rolleyes:

Why do Spanish players move abroad then?

And if English wages are so good, why does the best current player in the world play for Barca? Why did Ronaldo agitate for a move to Madrid? Why didn't Eto'o end up in the PL when he left Barca?

The high wages in England are a big part of why English players don't travel, for sure. Far from being the only reason, though.

I don't think at any point in his career they'd take him over Rooney.

Beyond Rooney yeah, it's pretty mediocre. But then you've only got to pick one or two forwards... one off games aren't about depth.

Ofcourse its not the only reason, but its certainly not just down to ability. The prem is probably the strongest league overall in terms of quality, so it attracts more players, especially english players obviously.

Why do most germany players play in germany? You saying they're crap too?

No it isn't just down to ability, but that factor can't just be dismissed. Of course, you've also got the phenomenon of English players coming at a premium - both in terms of fees and wages - in England, which partly explains why they stay but also indicates things aren't all rosy that this happens in the first place.

Why do most germany players play in germany? You saying they're crap too?

I'm not saying they're crap but German football isn't exactly as its strongest at the moment. I think even the Germans would recognise that.
